Can you please tell me why fiber one causes constipation if you stop eating it?

Can you please tell me why fiber one causes constipation if you stop eating it?

Rebound: If u stop it then u get a rebound effect, meaning the fiber is now not pulling h2o from ur body in the colon, & the colon is now reabsorbing h2o.U must remain well hydrated. Ur urine is a good judge, dark is an indicator u need h2o. It should b almost clear, this indicates u r hydrated. Also if u urinate vey little during the day is a sign 4 more h2o, more often will happen when well hydrated. ...Read more

Can fiber cause constipation or intestinal obstruction? Is it safe to consume 30 grams per day?

Can fiber cause constipation or intestinal obstruction? Is it safe to consume 30 grams per day?

You'llNeedFluidsToo: "They" say(whoever "they" are)that we all need about 25-30 grams(say, one ounce) of fiber a day. The cheap way would to eat about 4 paper towels.Yummy! But I wouldn't recommend that, unless you were stuck on an island with a lollipop & a roll of T.P. Better to get from veggies, grains & beans(both soluble and insoluble fiber). And no, it won't obstruct you unless you have an underlying problem. ...Read more

What causes abd distention, excess hunger even w/constipation despite high fiber/fluid intake. Usually painless but extreme fatigue. No obstruction.

Bowel "problems" often accompany GI disorders--whether functional or "organic." if pain with meals consider peptic (acid), biliary, or pancreatic disease. If bleeding or tenderness is present, this suggests inflammation, ischemia, or infection. "extreme fatigue" is quite concerning--thyroid, depression? See doctor. ...Read more

Bad constipation for ~4wks. Tried high fiber (3x rda!), more h2o, & stim. Laxatives (mildly helpful). Can lumbar ddd/torn disc at l5/s1 cause this?

Medications: The disc does not cause this, but the immobility (not moving because of the pain) and the medications you take for the pain sure can. Getting up and move around helps, mix some raw oatmeal with prune juice in a blender and make a milkshake/smoothie out of it, avoid any codones/narcotics will usually help. ...Read more
