Went to ER been having fevers around 102 said prob viral, blood test showed my blood sugar was 170 only thing I had in hours was a gatorade scared?

Repeat test: Sorry you're sick! Any interpretation of that result depends on how soon after the gatorade the test was taken, Also, no one diagnoses a disease on the basis of one test (in most cases). The test should be repeated when you are better. Also, being sick can effect it and everything may be fine later, unless the docs told you something else that makes them worried. Follow-up with your doc. ...Read more

Dear doctor, I am 29 years old man, my blood test result (alt sgpt) is 51. How can I reduce my level, I don't have pressur/sugar/cholestrol.?

Not very abnormal.: There is no way to "lower" liver enzyme levels when they are barely elevated. One should always take care to avoid liver toxins such as alcohol and tylenol (acetaminophen) in excess. You should redraw your liver tests agian in a month to see if everything is back to normal. If your levels remain mildly elevated, it might make sense to screen you for the usual culprits, fatty liver and hepatitis b and c. ...Read more

Calibration?: Cortisol has been associated with stress & blood sugar; however, the variations are relatively small & can fluctuate throughout the day. Similar to blood pressure readings, which may rise in the doctors office due to stress, a blood sugar reading in the office should be checked more than once, & taken in context, when deciding to treat it. Is 11 hours fasting fine for fasting blood sugar level test or is too much and will give inaccurate reading or lesser reading?

Sounds fine: A variety of blood tests gives more accurate results if the patient has not eating food, drank beverages other than water, or taken certain medications that might influence test results. For checking fasting blood sugars, a patient can fast overnight (about 10 hours, but 8-12 hours should be fine) and then give his blood sample before taking his morning vitamins or medications. ...Read more

Is having a fasting blood sugar level of 106 high? (I had two cups of black coffee before the test)

Need to retest: Fasting blood sugar test should be done after an overnight fast of at least 8 hours. Do not eat or drink anything other than water. 106 is not too high but by some it may be considered pre-diabetic.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Why is glucose screening test done exactly at 1hr? Does blood sugar level only peak then? After that does it drop or can it increase further?

Just a standard way.: Blood glucose testing can be done prior to eating (when you are fasting) and the "1 hour after" is only because it has been done this way for many years and will give a typical indication of your response to eating. It can go much higher in some diabetics and even higher in normal people at an hour after eating. The usual and in my view better indication of your blood sugar status is the HgbA1c ...Read more
