Are vision problems also associated with dry eyes and if so are they treated the same as other dry eye symptoms.

Depends: Ordinary dry eyes are sometimes uncomfortable but not harmful. If the dryness is more severe then the surface of the eye can develop dry spots that impair the vision and if severe, the front of the eye can break down. If the vision is impaired then extra strong treatment from your ophthalmologist will be necessary. ...Read more

When: When you have the lasik surgery, the nerves to your cornea is severed during the creation of the flap. This causes decrease in the corneal sensation. This lead to decrease in the blink rate and dryness caused by the prolonged exposure. Fortunately, the nerve will grow back. It will take 4~6 month for the nerves to fully grow back. Therefor, it is imperative that you lubricate your eye with frequent dosing of the artificial tears until your corneal nerves are fully restored. This should have been fully explained to the patient prior to the surgery. ...Read more
