Different molecules: Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) is an amphetamine and is a pro-drug meaning it is not active until it enters the blood stream. Adipex is a sympathomimetic amine much like pseudoephedrine. Generally amphetamines are much more potent drugs than the sympathomimetcs, but both can cause serious side-effects. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Will Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) and Adderall XR show the same on a urinalysis? Is there any test that does differentiate between the two?
Delivery form: Both a amphetamine (amp). Adderall is a blend of d-amp (50%) and d, l-amp (50%). Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) is called a prodrug: it is d-amp linked to an amino acid. It is inactive till it gets in the body, where an enzyme cleaves the molecule, releasing d-amp. That means a very different release pattern, and it is the longest acting oral stimulant. Some like one, others the other. Both can be effective. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Please tell me, could a lab tell the difference between concerta and focalin (dexmethylphenidate) XR in a urine sample?
Depends on tests: Kenneth G answered 8 months ago It all depends on the test they use. With a basic screen, amphetamine like drugs will look like the same things. If they do more sophisticated analysis, that's not the case. Now, the difference between Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) and Concerta is minimal. They are the same molecule, but Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) is the right-handed "dextro" isomer of methylphenidate vs Concerta which is a "racemic" mixture of left and right handed isomers. The dextro is considered to be the most active. If you're on Concerta, the urinary metabolite is d,l ritalinic acid. With focalin, (dexmethylphenidate) just d-ritalinic acid. ...Read more
Would Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) and Adderall XR have the same result on a drug test? Is there any way a test could differentiate between the two?
What are the main differences between Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) and Adderall? Is it safer for an adult to take Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) vs. Adderall ?
Methylphenidate : Both are brands of mph. Ritalin (methylphenidate) starts working in ~30 min, peaks ~1 1/2-2 hrs, & wears off in ~4hours. Concerta works in ~1 hr, peaks ~6hrs & wears off in ~12hrs. Variations in patients' metabolism of mph & difficulty timing the 2nd & 3rd daily doses of Ritalin (methylphenidate) make it hard to keep the mph blood levels & clinical effects consistent. Whereas branded Concerta is given in the am only. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

A few: Both are amphetamines, but vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) is pure d-amphetamine and Adderall is a mixture of d and l amphetamine. Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) is longer acting and is dosed once daily while Adderall is usually twice daily. Because of the way they are absorbed in the gut, vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) may be less affected by what you eat. Adderall may cause more anxiety and irritability while vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) is more likely to effect appetite. ...Read more
