Can Dr Belly Measurements Be Off Dramatically
Losing belly fat for a 42 year old male. Hi all, I am south Asian male aged 42 years, of generally good health. I had belly measurement of 41 inches. After 3 weeks of only liquid diet my belly got reduced to 39 inches. Next three weeks of liquid diet
I: I am assuming that you were on a reduced calorie liquid diet. It can be problematic to do that for six weeks straight. If your caloric intake was too low, your metabolic rate would drop because your body perceived that you were going into starvation mode. Over time, you body will burn fewer and fewer calories. As a result, when you resumed a normal diet, because of the lowered metabolic rate you continue to burn fewer calories because your set point is off. At this point, you might want to see a nutritionist to get back to a more normal metabolic rate. Good luck. ...Read more

What is more accurate? Fundal height measurement or measuring the baby through an ultrasound? I'll be 24w tomorrow and haven't had my belly measured
Baby growth: The fundal height is good for trending over the course of your pregnancy and fh is +/- 2-4 cm = weeks once past 20 weeks. Most doc's will start measuring fh at 20 or 24 week visit. At 20 weeks they did a ultrasound and the measurements was ok... Now at 31 weeks my belly is really small. My baby moves alot. Why so small?
Baby growth?: If you are saying your belly seems small compared to others at 31 weeks, then I would reassure you & say that appearances vary greatly at this point in pregnancy, depending on body shapes & sizes. Do not compare yourself to others. If you are saying that the baby is measuring small on a repeat ultrasound, there are numerous reasons for growth issues & I would suggest discuss this with your doctor. ...Read more
Doc sending me to an ultrasound specialist becouse my belly measurements show that am bigger then what I should be at 19 weeks anything to worry about?
Wasted Energy: Worrying when everything is being done correctly is just a bit of wasted energy. As you grow older you may come to learn how to manage these 'bumps' in life without spending much time worrying. It sounds like the doctor has responded appropriately to an abnormality and has in place the testing to figure this out. Sounds like all is being done correctly. ...Read more
Just curious, is an ultrasound the only way to determine if your having twins? Can ob feel more than one when doing regular measurements of belly?
Ultrasound is best: In this age of technology, Ob/Gyns rely on ultrasound to know if you are having twins. Measurements of your abdomen might provide a hint if you are growing faster than expected but there are also other reasons you might be growing fast besides twins. Farther along in your pregnancy, it is sometimes possible to feel both babys but this is not usually relied on for a definite answer. ...Read more

I had a fetal assessment 2 weeks ago had to go back today get rest measurement, told stomach bubble close to diaphragm, what does this mean?
Nothing: The stomach bubble is either where it is supposed to be, just inferior to the diuagphragm on the left side, or it appears in or above the diaphragm, pushing the lungs to the right, extremely abnormal, diagnostic of a diaphragmatic hernia. The ultrasound tech should have said nothing to you. Call you OB right away for clarification. ...Read more
Would stomach size interfere with getting abdominal aorta measurements by ultrasound if im pregnant. 28 weeks?
Sure: Pregnancy at 28 weeks could certainly interfere with abdominal aorta measurements on ultrasound. The likelihood of a related problem would be rare at your young age. If you and/or your physician are concerned, consider having an ultrasound to assess the abdominal aorta 3-6 months after delivery. ...Read more

Unless u r pregnant: If your belly is big b/c you're pregnant, then it's not considered detrimental. However, belly fat is different from fat elsewhere in the body in that it's associated w/greater risk of heart disease, diabetes, stroke, death, etc. If your body shape is more like an apple w/typical beer belly, that's bad b/c all fat is inside surrounding your organs. It's ok if u r pear shaped w/fat on ur behind. ...Read more

I have a weird pain in my belly button and it kind of feels like its ripping. Do you know what"s wrong with me???
I went to the dr about my rite side abdomen that goes around to my back. They said I have uti. Can it be something else?
Many possible causes: Abdominal pain in that location can have many causes including appendicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy, kidney stones, gallstones, and many others. Urinary tract infections commonly cause pain with urination and/or urinary frequency. If you have these, and your doctor did a urinalysis that was consistent with uti, then this may still be the most likely cause. ...Read more
Rough tech tried to roll baby over during 20 week u/s painfully pushing belly. Could this caused my abruption day later?
The force required to disrupt the placenta is generally pretty high but you should never let anyone push around your pregnant belly hard enough to cause you pain without demanding that they stop immediately.
it may be a coincidence that you were on the verge of abrupting but I would need to know more clinical information.
sorry that happened. ...Read more
Had pain on the right side of my abdomen years ago. When my Dr did a lap he found bad endometriosis on the left side. How is this possible?
Endometriosis: Thello tdhaus. It depends how he did the lap. If he did it thru an endoscope its very easy to see everything in the abdomen and would be easy to identify endometrio the LEFT. If he did an open lap (McBurneys incision) he could easily see and feel the1if the incision is large enough (? 10cms long) If he did it through a keyhole it would difficult to make this statement. Had a kidney u/s today. Did the right side while I was on my back, did the left while I was on my right side. Thought I should be on my belly, no?
28yrs. Old and 4 kids later. I'm trying to lose the big belly on my small frame. 100 situ po s and or either 100cruches. Help not working. Any advice?
Be patient: The abdominal muscles were stretched into a different length for your several pregnancies over several years. It can take a couple years of doing regular crunches to undo that stretch, but it can. If your belly button is sunken in more than half an inch, you also carry chub that you lose with dietary changes, not exercise. It is certainly worth your effort and easy to understand the frustration. ...Read more
Hi Dr. I've been having so much pain in my left side middle abdomen radiate to left back middle side around my kidneys, I don't know what going on.
Is it colitis? Dr said it is but I'm concerned cause it feels as if something is literally dilatating/ ripping off the right side of my belly/abdomen.
Dr. Can re-evaluate: Right or lower right abdominal pain can be from many things. For lower right pain, appendicitis is always a concern (pain usually worsens over time, with fever coming on). If very constipated for several days, stool can back up all the way to the right side, and cause discomfort or pain. Gallstones, kidney stones, or colitis can cause pain. In such cases, a primary care or an ER doctor can check. ...Read more
