I went to my doctor for tonsillitis he prescribed me doxycycline will this be effective against tonsillitis.
You will either get: Better or develop one of the complications of tonsillitis ie peritonsillar abscess/ retropharyngeal abscess. Since most cases of tonsillitis are viral, treatment would be for comfort and hydration. Untreated strep infections could lead to scarlet fever and rheumatic fever. Recent studies have shown that strep may cause heart damage that shows up much later in life.
Large crevices: The normal tonsil has deep crypts normally which increases the surface of the tonsillar tissue for an-active immunological response. I think it is difficult for any physician to specifically tell you that crypts are infected. The treatment is culture and sensitivity and if you have pain and difficulty swallowing for months, then surgery should be considered.See 1 more doctor answer
Throat infection: Acute tonsillitis is a throat infection which may be caused by a virus or a bacterium. Strep throat is the most common bacterial cause of acute tonsillitis. It is easily diagnosed with a throat swab and easily treated with antibiotics. Viral tonsillitis does not respond to antibiotics and is generally not treated.
Many Infections: Doxycycline and Flagyl (metronidazole) are antibiotics which can be used in the treatment of many different infections, most often caused by bacteria and/or protozoa. Metronidazole is particularly useful in the treatment of infections which may include anaerobics (live in environments without good oxygen supply). This combination may be used for treating sinus infections or stds for example.
Infections: The medications individually treat a variety of infections. When given together they are usually used to treat sexually transmitted infections, particularly: chlamydia and trichomoniasis. They are often given in combination with testing to avoid delaying treatment. They do have a variety of other indications however.See 1 more doctor answer
