Can a CT scan find a brain tumor?

Can a CT scan find a brain tumor?

Brain tumor: Some kinds of tumors are better diagnosed by ct and some by mri. Are you having issues with headaches, etc? You should see a doctor if you have any symptoms that make you worry about brain tumor. ...Read more

Computed Tomography (Definition)

Ct uses xrays taken an 360 degrees combined with a computer to see"inside" the body. The table moves as the xray tube and detectors spin around the patient 10 times a second or more! The image shows excellent soft tissue detail, enhanced with injection of intravenous contrast or oral contrast. This way the body is shown in slices, in any plane, usually axially, but ...Read more

What's the likelihood of a CT scan missing a brain tumor?

What's the likelihood of a CT scan missing a brain tumor?

CT not sensitive: Ct brain is a fast screening exam that is often used in the acute setting such as the emergency room. It is helpful in detecting obvious tumor and mass effect from the tumor. However, it is not sensitive in the detection of small tumor which does not produce mass effect or surrounding brain edema. Mri brain with and without contrast is the best imaging modality for detecting brain tumor. ...Read more

Non contrast CT scan show growing brain tumor, what is wrong?

Need more evaluation: It is very difficult to diagnose a brain tumor on a non-contrast ct scan. I would recommend getting a brain MRI with contrast (called gadolinium). Mri takes a much better look at the brain than does ct. ...Read more

What kind of brain tumor would not show up on a CT scan? Why would it not be seen?

If CT scan w&wo contrast came back normal with no brain tumor found 2 years and 7 months ago what's my risk to have one now if I have new symptoms?

It depends: It all depends on what kind of tumor was identified over two yrs ago. New symptoms strongly suggest that you need new studies. You should consult your neurologist or primary care m d. An MRI is more sensitive for soft tissue problems then a ct. ...Read more

Last question I promise 2 years and 7 month ago I got a CT scan with and without contrast and it was clear? D I need to still worry about brain tumor

Most: 23 year old men do not need a head ct +/- contrast in the first place, and the exposure from the radiation when you do not need a scan is not worth repeating. Imaging is expensive and should only be done when necessary. You provide no information suggesting either ct or MRI is indicated. ...Read more

2 years and 8 months ago CT scan w&wo contrast ruled out a brain tumor now im worry again can a brain tumor grow that fast and cause symptoms im 27?

Brain tumor: It is possible but is very unlikely. Specially if the symptoms you have now are the same you had 2 1/2 years ago. Discuss your symptoms with your doctor. He may be able to determine what is the problem causing your symptoms and relief you level if anxiety. ...Read more

Had a CT scan for possible brain tumor how long for my dr to get results? If something was found would I have herd the same day?

How quickly your physician informs you of the results is highly variable, unfortunately, and can't be predicted without knowing the habits of the individual physician you have. ...Read more

Had CT scan for brain tumor or bleed friday afternoon. Will I have to agonize all weekend? Is no news good news or was it just too late on a friday?

Don't assume: One would hope for a call, but lack of one doesn't mean anything--so don't read too much into it. Medical staff can drop the ball and leave patients in the dark, especially late on a friday afternoon. Definitely call the office monday morning to be sure. ...Read more

Can a CT scan miss a brain tumor or mass?

Yes: Ct scans can certainly on occasion miss a small tumor, especially when they are down in the posterior fossa at the base of the skull. Mri scans are more sensitive and less likely to miss a tumor, but even they can on rare occasions miss one that shows up later. These scans are read by human beings, and they can miss something that is there, too. ...Read more

Could radiation from mobile phones can cause brain tumor 10 or 20 years later? What about a CT scan its much more radiation?

Could radiation from mobile phones can cause brain tumor 10 or 20 years later? What about a CT scan its much more radiation?

No and probably no: Cell phones don't cause brain tumors. There's no biological basis, it's not the kind of radiation that mutates genes, the ongoing talk is driven by politicians, and the studies are such junk that one even had significantly more tumors on the opposite side. Ct scans may make a tiny contribution to glioma incidence but there's no proving in an individual case. ...Read more

Persistent headaches that last for a month everyday. CT scan 2 years ago, do I need to do again, im so scared of brain tumor..

Headache: Prompting a work up with CT scan 2 years ago that has returned again after a period of time is not likely due to a brain tumor in anyone yet alone a 25 year old. I would however do a scan if you were planning to have a spinal tap done to check for raised intracranial pressure due to pseudotumor cerebri. Had a fear of brain tumor for 7 months. Ct scan without contrast was clean. Would I be having severe symptoms by now if it was malignant?

Brain tumors aren't easily categorized into benign or malignant: Although the most aggressive type of brain tumor, glioblastoma, would likely be causing severe symptoms by now, there are other types of brain tumors that can be serious but not grow as quickly. The majority, however, would be associated with progressive symptoms during this time period. An MRI is the best test to evaluate potential masses in the brain. ...Read more

Neoplasms (Definition)

"tumor" literally translates as "mass", so even a fresh bruise could be called a "tumor". Doctors use the term "neoplasm" (tranlates literally as new growth) to describe tumors that are abnormal growths of cells. These may be benign or malignant; "malignant" = cancer. In everyday usage, we use "tumor" ...Read more
