Can Cool Mist Humidifier Used Summer
Safety: The hot misters I have delt with over the years have a heating elementand produce scalding water as well as steam. Most misters today use tuning fork technology and produce mist particles without the heat, or risk. By the time it gets to the kid it will cool off anyway, so i avoid the risk of hot steamers and recommend the cool mist. ...Read more

My baby will be born end of January. Can I use vaporizer for him? Cool mist or steam? Humidifier or vaporizer, which are better?
See below:: Throughout the 19th and most of the 20th century, cool mist administration was the mainstay of treatment for croup. Hospitals had "croup rooms" filled with cool mist. However, despite its continued widespread use, little evidence supports the clinical efficacy of cool mist. Randomized studies of children with moderate-to-severe croup revealed no difference in outcome for treated vs not. ...Read more
To mist or not to: A humidifier is basically a fan that draws moisture from a paper or metallic wick & adds it to air in the room. A vaporizer makes a mist. Old style vaporizers have a heating element that boils water making steam, these are unsafe. Modern products use tuning fork technology & make light or heavy mist (vaporizers also humidify)they are safe & helpful when your heater dries out the air you sleep in. ...Read more
For young infants, : put a cool must humidifier across the room up to a maximum of 50% humidity, because, in theory, you could overload them with water if it's too close. I guess that's probably 7-9 feet in most bedrooms. Keep the humidifier & its cord up where a 6-month-old & older can't pull it over. Run it with a 10% Clorox solution to clean it when baby's not in the room, followed by a cycle of fresh water. ...Read more

See below:: For safety, use cool-mist humidifiers for children. Hot water or steam from a warm-mist humidifier or steam vaporizer can burn a child if he or she gets too close. Warm-mist and cool-mist humidifiers are equally effective in humidifying the air. Also, by the time the water vapor reaches your child's lower airways, it's the same temperature regardless of whether it started out warm or cool. ...Read more

My 4 mth. Baby has a cold or allergies. At times he has a coughing spell, how can I control the coughing? I'm using a cool mist humidifier/baby vicks.
Yes: This is a very nice way to improve the humidity and also help decongest a baby without giving them medications. Don't forget the baby can use nasal saline drops too if congested. Put a couple of drops in the nose, gently massage, and then if he or she doesn't sneeze them out, use the bulb suctioner to clear out. Remember lots of cuddles too when baby not feeling well. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My 6 year old daughter is fighting a cold. She now has a cough. Would leaving a cool mist humidifier on throughout the night help her?
Maybe, maybe not: These help most when the environment is very dry, like in winder, when the heater pulls the humidity down below 20%.Humidifiers & vaporizers can help bring up the humidity up where it is not further drying the kids airway when they are sick. If the basic humidity the kid is in runs 30-40%, the humidifier has less positive benefit. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
My daughter is 3 and gets a lot of bloody noses. Her dr said to try a humidifier. Which would be the best for her a cool or warm mist?
Cool for a 3 y/o: The mist from both is the same, but the dangers of hot water from a warm mist humidiifer is very real with a 3 year old. I have seen too many burns from warm/hot humidifiers where curious toddlers touch them or get too close and get burned. Also, you have to be very conscientious about cleaning warm ones daily as they are more prone to harbor molds and other germs in the warm mist. Go with cool! ...Read more

Which is better to use when u have brohncatis and asthma when sick a cool mist humidifier or a warm mist vaporizer it's for my daughters 9 and 11?
Reducing post nasal drip with nasal saline rinses and a mild decongestant at bedtime may help alleviate their symptoms. If they have asthma, I would suggest reviewing their asthma plan. Some children will need an inhaled or by mouth steroid during an illness, to control inflammation.
