It would be difficult to tell the difference from diverticulitis. Recurrance risk will also depend on status of diverticular disease. ...Read more

If I have been diagnosed with diverticulitis by CT scan do I need a colonoscopy?

If I have been diagnosed with diverticulitis by CT scan do I need a colonoscopy?

Possibly: It depends some on your age and past history. Diverticulitis, an infection of the colon, can sometimes show a lot of thickening on ct scan. That can be hard to tell if the infection caused the swelling, or if a tumor is causing the thickening. It is common to recommend a colonoscopy several weeks after the diverticulitis had healed, if you have not already had one. ...Read more

I have blood in stool. I've had 4 colonoscopy. Negative results. Had diverticulitis before. What could my problem be?

Maybe not colonic...: Evaluation is always appropriate for re-bleeding from the gut. Black stool often means bleeding from upper GI tract; grape jelly stool from small bowel; silver stool from biliary tree; burgundy stool from right colon; red blood from left colon to anal canal. Any accompanying symptoms? Do you take NSAID's, over-use alcohol, smoke tobacco, have other risks (AVM's for example)--lots to consider. ...Read more

Canasa for hems too: I use Canasa for internal hemorrhoids, to decrease bleeding. Are you sure she had diverticulitis, or was it diverticulosis? Diverticulitis is a potentially serious infection. Diverticulosis is the presence of pockets in the colon without infection. Most likely, she has diverticulosis, or they would have started her on a specific diet and antibiotics. ...Read more
