I haven't been able to poop for 9 days now. I've drank coffee, tea, eaten bananas, cranberries and even taken 3 constipation pills. Is this serious?
Obstipation: I recommend that you be examined if this is an unusual bowel problem for you. I am having constipation issues and need help
i have also had a gastric bypass in 2006 and have never been regular i drink coffee every day, tea, oj, and crystal light. I take 325 mg of iron daily, tylenol 3, 3 calcium citrate daily and 2 vitamins daily.
Can make changes: Try switching to a less constipating form of iron (e.g., ferrous bisglycinate) and try to moderate consumption of diuretic drinks like coffee/oj. Magnesium and vitamin c supplementation can also help with constipation (although mg+ can interfere with calcium absorption if you're low). For vit c, start with buffered powder, add a heaping 1/2 tsp to water/juice, & increase by 1/2 tsp/day until ok. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I feel like I've been constipated for a while. I drank coffee now I can't stay off the toilet, will that do that? If so why?
For many people: Coffee stimulates the colon, causing you to have a bowel movement. A lot of people use it as a failsafe way to have a bowel movement every morning. If you need coffee to have a bowel movement, then you need to get more fluids and eat more fiber. You should aim to have a bowel movement at least daily without using stimulants such as coffee and laxatives. The effect is temporary. ...Read more
