Can Ciprofloxacin 500 MG Treat gonorrhea, chlamydia or any Sti's?

Can Ciprofloxacin 500 MG Treat gonorrhea, chlamydia or any Sti's?

No: Most STIs don't respond to Cipro (ciprofloxacin)floxacin. Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is a reasonable treatment for gonorrhea; however, treating Chlamydia with Cipro (ciprofloxacin)floxacin isn't effective. It frequently results in many treatment failures and relapses. Doxycycline and Zithromax are the recommended treatment. Cipro (ciprofloxacin) also isn't effective for Syphilis, HIV, HPV, Herpes, and Trichomonas. Best wishes! Read more

Will 500 mg of ciprofloxacin treat gonorrhea or chlamydia if 1 tablet is taken twice daily for 3 days (6 total tablets)?

Will 500 mg of ciprofloxacin treat gonorrhea or chlamydia if 1 tablet is taken twice daily for 3 days (6 total tablets)?

Definitely not!: Cipro (ciprofloxacin)floxacin once was used routinely to treat gonorrhea, but many gonorrhea strains are now resistant to it. And cipro (ciprofloxacin) has never been effective for chlamydia. Cipro (ciprofloxacin) definitely should not be used to treat either of these STDs; no matter how much you take, it is not likely to work. Talk with your doctor about getting proper treatment, usually with ceftriaxone, azithromycin, or both. Good luck! Read more

Could a single dose of 1g azithromycin and 500mg ciprofloxacin be enough to treat chlamydia and gonorrhea infection?

Could a single dose of 1g azithromycin and 500mg ciprofloxacin be enough to treat chlamydia and gonorrhea infection?

No: Current cdc recommendations for gonorrhea and chlmydia are a single dose of Ceftriaxone 250 mg (shot) and a single dose of Azithromycin 1g (by mouth). Instead of Azithromycin you could do Doxycycline 100 mg by mouth twice a day for 7 days. Treatment for pelvic inflammatory disease (more severe infection in females) cannot be done in a single dose. Can I take ciprofloxacin 500mg for gonorrhea?

Can I take ciprofloxacin 500mg for gonorrhea?

Drug Resistance: Even though Cipro (ciprofloxacin) 5oo mgm as a single dose has been recommended in past as an effective treatment for cure of gonorrhea, but it is not recommended these days due to increasing resistance to this drug. A single dose of Rocephin 250 mgm is the recommended antibiotic in 2013 due to increasing resitance to fluroquinolones like cipro, (ciprofloxacin) Levaquin etc. Read more

Ciprofloxacin 500mg for gonorrhea. Is this normal?

Yes: Ciprofloxacin 500mg can be used as a single dose regimen for the treatment of uncomplicated gonococcal infections. I have 500 mg Cipro (ciprofloxacin) pills for gonorrhea, how many pills per day should I take and how many days?

I have 500 mg Cipro (ciprofloxacin) pills for gonorrhea, how many pills per day should I take and how many days?

Don't take it: Gonorrhea is not reliably treated with ciprofloxacin and related drugs, especially in Asia. You'll need an injection of ceftriaxone, and oral azithromycin or doxycycline as well. There are excellent STD clinics and specialists in Bangkok; visit one for professional management. Read more

I am traveling and believe I caught chlamidyia or gonorrhea. I took 1500mg of azithrimycin and 2000mg of cipro (ciprofloxacin). Should this eliminate the problem?

STDs: Nope. There is a new form of gonorrhea sweeping the western world resistant to all normal medications. It is only treated by a shot, ceftriaxone. I would ask your physician why you were not treated with this medication. Read more

Hi, Is Ciprofloxacin good vs Gonorrhea and how long should I take it? I was told to take Azithromycin as well for Chlamydia. Is it it ok to combine?

Hi, Is Ciprofloxacin good vs Gonorrhea and how long should I take it? I was told to take Azithromycin as well for Chlamydia. Is it it ok to combine?

Yes you need to take: Both antibiotics for these diseases. However in recent population studies in the USA and throughout the world, fluoroquinolone-resistant strains of Neisseria gonorrhaea have become widespread, especially in more endemic areas with the highest prevalence. This means that it may be safer for you to seek a single dose Ceftriaxone in the arm or buttock for best available treatment method. Read more

What prostatitis infection after hand job with oil? Chlamydia and gonorrhea neg. Doxy, cipro, (ciprofloxacin) z pack, no help. Flagyl helped little. What do I do?

What prostatitis infection after hand job with oil? Chlamydia and gonorrhea neg. Doxy, cipro, (ciprofloxacin) z pack, no help. Flagyl helped little. What do I do?

Doubt prostatitis: No STD or any infection that might cause prostatitis is possible from such contact. I'm guessing your symptoms are some combination of urinary urgency, bladder discomfort, and/or testicular or low abdominal pain. Most men with such symptoms have genitally focused anxiety--pain from pevlic muscle tension not prostate. That all the antibiotics didn't help is very strong evidence against infection. Read more

How long it takes for cipro & doxy to be out of the body? I'm actually on cipro & doxy for a gonorrhea. I'm in my day 4 of a 7 days treatment. I take 4 pills a day (morning/night, 1-1 - 1-1) How long will it take for the antibiotics to leave my body af

Half life: The half life (the time it takes your body to eliminate half of the dose) of cipro (ciprofloxacin) is much shorter than the doxy. Cipro's half life is 4-6 hours where doxy's is 15+ hours Read more

Is 1g of azithromycin and 400 mg of cefixime good against gonorrhea? Tried doxy+cipro already and it didn't work. I'm in Thailand, allergic penicilin

Is 1g of azithromycin and 400 mg of cefixime good against gonorrhea? Tried doxy+cipro already and it didn't work. I'm in Thailand, allergic penicilin

Should be OK: Gonorrhea bacteria in SE Asia, including Thailand, often are resistant to both ciprofloxacin and doxycycline, so no surprise they didn't work. Cefixime and azithromycin should be OK, but the best option would have been a shot of ceftriaxone 250 mg instead of cefixime. You should be retested in 2-3 weeks to be sure it's gone; if not, see an STD expert and discuss ceftriaxone. Good luck. Read more

2 weeks ago, I took cipro (ciprofloxacin) (750mg 2x/day) for a uti. After 2 days, I felt pain and numbness in my hands, feet and face. The UTI was gone by day 2, but the pain gets worse daily. Is this treatable?

Need in person eval: If your symptoms are getting worse despite the fact that you're off the cipro, (ciprofloxacin) you need to be seen by a doctor and make sure that the two are related. Read more

Is it dangerous to take doxy + cipro (ciprofloxacin) for gonnorhea if I don't have doctor prescription? I took that months ago and it helped me. I feel same symptoms.

Not a good idea: There is a reason, why there are over-the-counter medications and medications that a doctor has to prescribe and to monitor, while a patient is taking them. Doxy plus cipro (ciprofloxacin) for gonorrhea is overkill - provided it is gonorrhea that you have. Just because the symptoms seem to be the same, it may be more than just gonorrhea. Be smart and get checked. Read more

Slight white discharge, slight pain w/urination (almost 2 weeks) Zithromax & cipro (ciprofloxacin) didn't help. Test neg for chlamydia & gonnorrhea. Thoughts?

More evaluation...: Additional information is needed to answer your question with any meaning since you are experiencing may be 1) a yeast infection, 2)continued UTI if the bacteria is resistant to the antibiotics used, 3) atrophy due to menopause, 4) something other than a UTI. A clinical re-evaluation is needed to determine any additional testing is needed to secure the diagnosis. Read more
