Can Cell Phones Cause Cancer I Want To Know Once And For All
Cancer is a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth leading to invasion of surrounding tissues that spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can begin anywhere in the body and is usually related to one or more genetic mutations that allow normal cells to become malignant by interfering with internal cellular control mechanisms, such as programmed cell death or by preventing ...Read more
No strong evidence: The studies out there show that there could be some risk of cell phone and development of glioma , but the evidence is not strong enough to confirm the link, and needs to be researched further. It is definitely raise a concern, but there is no conclusive relationship. So, use an ear piece and don't let / limit your children use cell phone. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Controversial: There is very little evidence that cell phone usage causes brain tumors. At least one large study in (i think) sweden suggested a slight increase in the frequency of tumors or the 8th (acoustic) nerve in high-use individuals, but showed no increase in other types of brain tumors, including gliomas. Other studies have not even supported that there are more 8th nerve tumors from cell phones. ...Read more
Stop worrying: Anyone who's scientifically literate will recognize that this ongoing business is fueled by politicians and fearmongers. The statistics seem nothing more than the usual junk that's generated by retrospective studies (people's beliefs color their memories), the radiation isn't the kind that damages genes, and in the big study more cancers were on the opposite side. ...Read more
Proof of cell: Phone link not yet in, microwaves are relatively safe, but radiation is in the electromagnetic spectrum and is a clear cause, and u-v light is part of the spectrum causing skin cancers. All seem to demonstrate direct links to dose and time of exposure. X-rays seem to have no threshold, but very low doses are very unliklely to lead to individual harm, but to a population, a small number will. ...Read more
No: Somebody may tell you this is "still under study", but this pathologist thinks the idea is just wrong. No theoretical mechanism. You can find that anything causes anything if you do a bad study or ask the wrong questions, especially retrospectively. In one big study, the tumors were more common on the side opposite the cell phone. Stop worrying and enjoy the benefits of today's technology. ...Read more
No: The pop claim that they do is based on scientific illiteracy -- the radiation they produce isn't the ionizing kind that causes cancer, it's the low-energy stuff that's also emitted by a pet kitten. Unfortunately, when politics and fearmongering start, it's easy to do a bad epidemiologic study & scare people -- one had more of the cancers on the opposite side from the phone. It's dumb. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
