If immunosuppressed patient & have symptoms of celiac disease, how to confirm it? Especially they will have -ve IgA ttg test and almost normal biopsy!

I have celiac disease, every time I eat even if it's gluten free food or drink a beverage I get really bloated. Something more than celiac?

Complex issue: Sometimes gluten sensitive people also have food sensitivities to other proteins.Cow milk, egg,,corn, chocolate are a few that bother one patient I follow. You may also want to visit a clinical dietitian to get an idea how to work with this. ...Read more

I have not checked for Celiac disease. Should I get a blood test? I have been under a lot of stress lately. I also drink a lot of caffeine.

Maybe: Your question does not provide enough info to confirm or exclude need for a celiac screening. It is a real problem with some subtle symptoms and effects. Screening is simple but confirmation requires an intestinal biopsy. You should have it confirmed before trying a gluten free lifestyle, which has a cult like following. True celiacs have other associated risks that need to be explored. ...Read more

How much gluten food does a patient need to eat before taking a celiac panel blood test? How far in advance does she need to eat gluten food? Thanks!

Sometimes none: A celiac "panel" should look for several things and some of those will be positive in people with celiac disease without any exposure to gluten at or before the time of the test. Certain antibodies will only be positive if you have been exposed to gluten a day or so before the study, but they do not define celiac disease. ...Read more
