I have wrist and elbow pain; is this carpal tunnel syndrome?

No: Carpal tunnel pain is usually an electrical shock or shooting pain in the hand from movement in the wrist. One of the tests is to tap on the wrist to elicit the pain. Elbow pain may be from a tendonitis or bursitis, for example. Wrist pain can be from several causes too including strain. However, one does not get elbow pain with carpal tunnel syndrome. ...Read more

What causes elbow pain and pain/weakness in bicep with sharp wrist pain and shooting finger pain? No diabetes had carpal tunnel realease 4months ago

Nerve compression: You may not have had carpal tunnel syndrome but rather pronator syndrome a more proximal level of compression. With biceps pain most likely location of compression would be the ligament of struthers. Follow up with your hand surgeon. ...Read more

Can ulnar nerve pain cause bicep and tricep pain? Also have pain on both sides of elbow/wrist. Carpal tunnel was released on same arm 4 months ago.

Can ulnar nerve pain cause bicep and tricep pain? Also have pain on both sides of elbow/wrist. Carpal tunnel was released on same arm 4 months ago.

May not be ulnar: The ulnar nerve can cause pain through out its distribution in your arm, but your pain does not fit only ulnar pain. Carpal tunnel syndrome is related to your median nerve. To have both median nerve and ulnar nerve issues, you most likely have an issue upstream of those nerves not specifically with the median or ulnar, either brachial plexus issue or cervical radiculopathy. Emg should be done. ...Read more

I was diagnoised with left elbow tendonitis with degenerative joint disease. Can this cause carpal tunnel in my wrist?

I was diagnoised with left elbow tendonitis with degenerative joint disease. Can this cause carpal tunnel in my wrist?

It depends.: It depends on whether your elbow tendonitis is related to you degenerative joint disease, or to tendonitis at the wrist or hand. The muscles and tendons used by the wrist and hand begin at the elbow attachments sites. If the inflammation extends into the wrists, especially along the palmar aspect, then you may have symptoms of tendonitis at the radial elbow and carpal tunnel as well. ...Read more

Had carpal release surgery. BUT now my pinky up to my elbow is extremely painful. Did carpal tunnel surgery not help? Why am I still in pain?

Cubital tunnel: Numbness in the pinky and ring fingers indicates a nerve compression higher up in the arm most likely from the elbow. Carpal tunnel surgery addresses the nerve that gives sensation to the thumb index and middle fingers. Cubital tunnel syndrome causes compression to the ulnar nerve at the elbow and can lead to numbness and pain in the pinky. Am examination and nerve tests are needed to confirm ...Read more

What steroids do they use for carpal tunnel and tennis elbow?

Any: There is no definitive data to suggest one steroid medication works any better than another. I prefer to use celestone (betamethasone) and when we run out if that I use dexamethasone. How to tell difference between carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome? I got elbow pain, tingling in thumb, middle, index and ring, sometimes pinkie

NCV/EMG: Truth be told, there's a lot of symptom overlap amongst the compressive neuropathies of the arm. For example, carpal tunnel syndrome can radiate symptoms up to the shoulder. Your best bet would be getting a nerve conduction velocity with EMG. Technically you could have both issues, and this test can elucidate that as well. ...Read more

How bad is my carpal tunnel if when my hand goes to sleep i get an itchy spot on my palm right below my first and middle fingers & hurts in my elbow?

If weakness = bad: Carpal tunnel syndrome can display a number of different symptoms including the ones you have described. It is "bad" in a prognostic sense if the symptoms include weakness of the muscles to the fingers and thumb of the affected hand. The more and longer you have weakness of the hand the less likely surgery is able to relieve the weakness. Pain is pain if frequent and worsening you do the math ;). ...Read more

Can emg determine if carpal tunnel cause of hand pain? Mri shows cervical stenosis. Emg only done on arm, confirmed carp tunl, not done on neck?

Yes: The nerve study can determine if there is a compression at the neck or further down such as the wrist in carpal tunnel syndrome. This is only one portion of the diagnostic workup and should include a full exam by a hand surgeon. If there are 2 issues then release of the carpal tunnel is generally regarded as the first line treatment as recently evident in an article published this month. ...Read more

Can carpal tunnel weakness go all the way up your arm ?

Can carpal tunnel weakness go all the way up your arm ?

No: true carpal tunnel only effects the muscles of the thenar eminence in the palm. More proximal weakness can be median nerve related but would be a more proximal level of compression such as brachial plexus, nerve roots at cervical spine, or pronator syndrome. Parasthesias or pain can radiate up the arm from carpal tunnel. Seek care for evaluation. ...Read more
