Can Calpol Cause Constipation
I gave my 3 year old calpol for a temperature only realising it was 6 months out of date later on! Can it be harmful or is it just less effective?
No: Not harmful and likely just as effective. The expiry date often is stated as earlier than the true expiry date. All the best and I hope he/she feels better.
"Tylenol Syrup": Addiction to tylenol also known as acetaminophen, paracetamol, calpol, and many other names, has been described in the addiction medicine literature. With calpol one gets a high dose of sugar and Acetaminophen at once and this could have a weak potentiating effect. Fortunately the addiction is weak and can be safely stopped with a little adult thinking and planning.
Call poison control: The first thing you should do is call poison control when your child ingests something that you aren't sure if is harmful. Calpol is a pain medication, not often used in the us and to determine if the amount is harmful, call poison control asap.
Hard to say: Since you didn't provide any background information, I cannot say. The site is not a chat room and your questions or uploads are not linked, or available for us to review. We would need the dosage info you are referencing to make any comment.See 1 more doctor answer
Baby 8 mths. Teething. For weeks, hardly sleeps at night. Last night gave Calpol, baby slept all night. What is best for baby? To give Calpol or not?
Yes it is fine: Yes give at 10-15 mg per kilogram of weight every 4 - 6 hours if fever greater than 38.4*f or 100.4*c for fever.
My three years daughter fever is not coming down so I give her calpol and nurofrn together is it ok?
NO: It is never necessary to combine fever meds, as these may be harmful to the liver, and in fact fever does not need to be treated at all. Fever is your friend - it is there to fight infection, and lowering it only prolongs illness. We recommend treating only the symptoms- if your child is in pain, treat, otherwise give plenty of fluidsa nd let the fever run its course.
My baby is on 0.6mls ranitidine for reflux - it says that calpol has a minor risk if taken with it- help!?
Medications: Calpol (paracetamol = Acetaminophen in us) has no drug-drug interactions listed. The main precaution is not to give too much calpol since it can damage the liver. Following directions for each should be safe.
Never been able to swallow tablets but I think I'm getting addicted to calpol. So I need to cut back, but what can really help me long term?
Don't know if you: Are aware that Calpol is the same as Acetaminophen or tylenol (acetaminophen). It does not produce any physical dependency, so whatever your issue is, it is psychological. Amounts of tylenol (acetaminophen) over 2 grams per day are not recommended and can ultimately cause liver/kidney damage. You should see your doctor and make sure your liver is ok, and get a referral to a mental health professional for counseling.
My 6 yr old has been complaining of a headache mainly when she moves it I've been giving her calpol is this ok or what should I be given her?
Paracetomol in kids: If the headache is occurring with movement, this suggests neck muscle strain. While the medicine you are giving is effective for pain relief, it does not have anti-inflammatory effect. I would try alternative methods first before jumping to medicine for this. Try gentle massage warm compress wrapped around neck. Calpol does have its side effects, including possible trigger for asthma.
How long do I need to wait before giving neurofen to toddler after giving her paracetamol. I gave her calpol@ 9pm, 45 minutes after temp is 38.6?
Neurofen: Neurofen can be given four hours after paracetamol.
My son is 7 months old. He has a fever right now. We gave him calpol syrup about 45 minutes ago but the temperature is still 103 f. Please suggest?
Emergency: Any fever in a child under one year of age is an emergency. Please sign off of the internet and get your child to the doctor today.
The larger issues =: flecainide & warfarin. Suggest Google "flecainide mortality rates". In the CAST trial those for whom flecainide was effective & continued taking had 3 times the mortality rate of those randomized back to placebo. While amiodarone stimulates dose related pulmonary fibrosis long term, it is the only agent which does not? Mortality short term. Once PFO endothelialized, Xarelto likely better/safer.
Fever: Kids tolerate fever better than adult. Common cause is viral, stays 3-5 days. If doesn't get better with spportive care e.G fever medicine, increased fluid intake, see the doc. Don't have to give fever medicine if 101 f or below unless h/o febrile seizure. Common medicine- Acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Less than 90 day age- any fever 100.4 or above- immediate medical attention to rule out sepsis.
She is suffering from fever On and Off for 5 days now. We have given calpol & mefthal temp goes down and returns. Urine -ve. Active when no fever. 5yr?
Other symptoms?: Glad 2 see urine is negative. Does she have a red throat? Bumps on her tongue? Pink eyes? Red lips? Good urine output? Cough and cold symptoms? Contacts with mono or strep throat or influenza? Any other rash? If she wakes up with fever tomorrow, going into six days of fever, she will need another assessment. Hope she is feeling better soon!
4 year old had cold symptoms for a week but has slept all night and morning fever of 39.85 gave a dose if calpol is now 38.88 is that ok?
Sounds better: When a child with a cold is sleeping better, eating better, and has a temperature less than 101 f (38.88 c) for 24 hours, she is probably okay for all her usual activities.
