I know breasts can be tender before menstruation but can armpit lymph nodes be tender and swell too during that time?

Past history: That can happen to some people. Use your past menstrual history as a guide to determine if this is normal for you. Since you are 27 you have had many menstrual cycles. If this always happens then it is likely your normal pattern. If this has never happened to you before then it can’t be considered normal and should be evaluated ...Read more

No sign cancer in breast, spread to 2 lymph nodes prominent lymph nodes about 3 inches below armpit, no primary tumour. What is survival rate?

Same as breast mass: Survival rate of breast cancer metastatic to axillary lymph nodes, but without evident primary tumor is the same as that when a primary tumor is evident. It depends on hormone receptor status, HER2status, age and overall health of patient. Also—since some women are cured of this disease and others aren't—it depends on factors of which medical science is now ignorant. ...Read more

I have a painful lymphnode in my armpit. I am a breast feeding mom. I had that lump 4 months ago and needed antibiotics. What's the problem with me?

Lymphadenopathy: Cannot tell what is wrong without an exam and full history, but it is possible that the enlarged node in your armpit is due to infection that is recurrent. This should be seen and examined by a physician who has the entire history and the capacity to examine you and perhaps do further testing. Good luck. ...Read more

Fair skinned. Part-time breast feeding 3.5 mos. Armpit swelling & can now suddenly see more blue veins across my chest & shoulders. Cancer?

Nah: The blue veins are typical for breastfeeding moms, your superficial veins are expanding to provide more blood flow to the area. I had these too while I was nursing. As far as the armpit swelling, I need more detail to understand the significance of this, are there painful bumps? Overall swelling? I suggest you followup with your primary care doc on the armpit swelling soon. ...Read more

Tender lymph nodes to the right of right breast, down under arm pit, ?

Well...: If they are tender and have not been there for long AND there is nothing going on in the breast, I would venture to say they are inflammatory rather than cancer. That said, I'm a breast oncologist and have seen all sort of things so I would urge you to visit your doc as soon as you can for a good evaluation. If it gets worse or if the breast gets red and inflamed, your MD visit should be urgent. ...Read more

Had breast u/s showed multiple fibroadenomas, complex cyst and bilateral axillary lymph nodes enlargement. Painful breast+ arm with edema. Possibly?

See specialist: You have a "busy" breast and with your young age it is probably dense as well. I highly recommend you find a breast specialist who can review the films and examine you. I have several other posts on Fibroadenoma and Cystic changes (Fibrocystic) that you can review.
Good luck. ...Read more

I woke up today with sore, sensitive skin up and down my left forearm. I also have painful lymph nodes under my arm and breast. What could this be?

Diagnosed with shingles 5 days ago; have lymphedema on 1 arm from removal of 30 breast cancer involved lymph nodes - what if shingles spreads to arm?

Secondary infection: Good news is that shingles always follows set patterns. The outbreaks follow the course of a sensory nerve. So, if the outbreak isn't now near the arm, it is very unlikely that it will go there. You can search online for shingles dermatomes to see the patterns. If it does make it to your arm, secondary infection is your biggest concern. Be careful the blisters do not pop and become infected. ...Read more

Can a breast lump removal cause lymph nodes along neck to swell?

HIghly unlikely: If done with sterile precautions. However, the armpit lymph nodes connect to those along the sub clavicle vein nodes and then into the neck. Causes for swollen and painful lymph nodes in armpit and breast area? Should I be worried?

Lymphadenitis: Lymph nodes are the body's second line of defense against infection. They swell with inflammation, trying to fend off bacteria and other types of invasion including some types of cancer. If you have been sick recently or if you have some sort of infection near the affected nodes, that's probably the cause and the nodes will return to normal size in a few weeks. If you're not sure, see your doctor ...Read more

Was rather obsessively checking my breasts & armpits for lumps - now I can feel what I think is a small lymph node. Could I have caused it to enlarge?

Unlikely: Do not check it more often than once in two weeks. If it doubles in size or other lymph nodes get larger, see doctor.
For good health - If the result is negative repeat the test 4-5 days later unless you get a period by then. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully.
If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time, every time. You may consider implanted contraceptive, or IUD.
Practice safe sex. ...Read more
