Becoming : Becoming pregnant is possible at any time during the cycle. Sometimes bleeding represents menstrual flow; but it can also represent "spotting", or atypical bleeding during pregnancy. If you are at all suspicious that you are pregnant please take a pregnancy test. If you have pain, vomiting, increased bleeding, or feel light-headed or faint, then please be seen as an emergency. ...Read more

Is it ok to take prenatal vitamins for anemia and low b and d vitamins even if you are not pregnant or not trying to conceive?

Is it ok to take prenatal vitamins for anemia and low b and d vitamins even if you are not pregnant or not trying to conceive?

Yes, in fact wise: I advise everyone take a quality multivitamin. Prenatals are a type of multivit. which contain B vits and tend to be rich in iron which often helps anemia. I advise everybody takes 5-8000iu of Vit D3 in fall and winter months and year-round if you don't get much mid-day sun without sunscreen in spring and summer. See http://tinyurl.com/m67hmkg I advise a prenatal with the L-5MTHF form of folate (folic acid). ...Read more

Pernicious anemia and planning pregnancy. I currently get B12 injections bimonthly. Recommendations? B12 more often? What is recommended max dosis?

Keep levels normal: A pernicious anemia patient can work with her primary care and ob-gyn doctor to find out how often she needs injections to keep her B12 level normal. Haven't seen any reports of B12 injections causing pregnancy problems, if the B12 is being used to prevent B12 deficiency. A common dose is 1mg each shot, with the patient getting a shot every few weeks or every month, depending on need. ...Read more
