Can drinking a lot of alcohol cause kidney pain or uti/kidney infection? Drank a lot last night and now my kidneys really hurting. Is it related?

Can drinking a lot of alcohol cause kidney pain or uti/kidney infection? Drank a lot last night and now my kidneys really hurting. Is it related?

No connection: There is likely no connection, other than that your drinking may have stopped your antibiotic from working on a preexisting kidney infection. If you are in a lot of pain and are running a fever, you should go to the er now in case you have a kidney infection that could spread to your blood. Also, you need to have kidney stones ruled out. Good luck to you and take care of yourself. Alcohol causes more problems than it's worth. ...Read more

I have a UTI turning into a kidney infection. Also believe I have swollen lymph nodes behind my ears. I'm on medication but still feel bad. Normal?

No infx is normal.: U need to complete the entire course of antibiotics (2 wks?), no matter what, b/c any infection is not normal. A UTI can spread up the ureters to the kidney, causing pyelonephritis, which is serious b/c the kidneys r very vascular & the infx can get into the bloodstream. Not sure about the lymph node behind the ear; it may be from prior infection & flared up w/ ur immune system now in overdrive. GL ...Read more

Hi, had a UTI and kidney infection now since August 16th nearly a month. I'm on my 4th set of tabs. It came back. Is there an underlined problem here?

Yes: Assuming you had your urine cultured and were given an antibiotic based on culture results, the recurrence could mean there is a structural abnormality of the ureter that sets you up for infection.
If you were treated without urine culture, you may have a resistant bacteria needing another medication.
Ask your doctor if a culture was done. If not, have one done now. ...Read more

Could I have a kidney infection without a uti?

Could I have a kidney infection without a uti?

In most cases, no: A UTI usually involves the bladder or urethra but if the infection travels up to the kidneys, it can cause an infection there. This is the common pathway. However, there are cases where an infection may initiate in the kidney itself due to a kidney stone which blocks the ureter. Other ways are via infections near the kidney, bacteremia, anatomical variants and kidney cysts. Always best to see your doc! ...Read more
