Sounds like herpes: Typical story for initial genital herpes. I hope your genital sore (s) were tested for HSV by PCR or culture (PCR is best). If positive, make sure the virus is typed, i.e. HSV1 or HSV2, which is very important in predicting future course, need for ongoing Rx, and preventing transmission to partners. If herpes, symptoms should start improving soon on valacyclovir (Valtrex). Get partner (s) checked. ...Read more

A date just told me she has herpes 1 and 2. What are the chances I will contract it how treatable is it!
Depends: It depends on how much contact you had, as well as if she had active lesions at the time. Treatment can reduce flares and help speed recovery, but there is no way to eradicate it once infected. ...Read more
Gonorrhea treatment: Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim®) is not recommended or reliable against gonorrhea. It might work but is dangerously risky; you need proper gonorrhea treatment with an injection of ceftriaxone plus either azithromycin or doxycycline. Contact your doctor immediately to arrange treatment. Also make sure all recent (1-2 mo.) sex partners are tested and treated. Good luck! ...Read more

Depends. . .: Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) only works against those bacteria that are sensitive to it, just like diesel fuel is only good for a diesel engine. Check out http://www. Mayoclinic. Com/health/hidradenitis-suppurativa/ds00818 for more info. Do you know if bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) will help treat my uti? I was prescribed bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) before but it didn't help. Will it help me this time for recurrent uti?
Same/different bug: Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is a reasonable choice for UTI treatment, however not all bacteria that cause utis are susceptible to this antibiotic. The gold standard is to have a urine culture of the organism to know its antibiotic sensitivity pattern. Without knowing more specifics or whether the recurrence is the same bug, it is hard to know whether Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) will help this time. ...Read more

Had cellulitis 6/1, treated 1g rocephin, 10days Bactrim Ds 2 pills BID. On 7/13, I learned I had gonorrhea, sex 13days prior, did he give gonorrhea?
Probably yes: You can be 100% certain you did not have your gonorrhea when you were treated with ceftriaxone (Rocephin) and bactrum; that treatment for sure would have cured gonorrhea. Therefore, you had to catch it sometime later. If your only partner or exposure since then was the one 7/13, that's when you caught it. That partner needs exam, testing, and treatment for gonorrhea. ...Read more

I just finished bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds for inflamed cyst, I also have been having chronic diverticulitis can these antibiotics treat diverticulitis same time?
Possibly: However if it is going to work you actually must have a confirmed diagnosis of acute diverticulitis, not chronic diverticulosis. You would need 14 days of antibiotics and a 6 week course of low/no fiber diet. My preference is to confirm diverticulitis by labs, exam and possible CT scan, then initiate the above treatment if confirmed. I prefer levaquin/metronidazole as a more effective antibiotic ...Read more

Hi I just wanted to know if the antibiotic bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) will treat gonorrhea or chlamidya?
Basically no.: Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (bactrim) is ineffective against chlamydia and there is a wide range of antibiotics that can be given for gonorrhea, but Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is not one of them. Since some gonorrhea is resistant to antibiotics, only a physician can determine which one to use. Recommended therapy for chlamydia is Doxycycline or Azithromycin with fluorinated quinolones also effective. ...Read more
