Can baby get sick if breastfeeding and there is a skin infection in mom?

Can baby get sick if breastfeeding and there is a skin infection in mom?

It depends: There are so many skin infections it is hard to make a blanket statement that covers every variation. It would depend on what the infection is from, how bad is it, where exactly on the breast is the infection, is the infection partly treated and no longer contagious because it is partly treated but the mom is not yet fully recovered. Best bet is to get the opinion of a breatfeeding friendly dr. ...Read more

How likely is it that you have an infection related to breastfeeding if you have breast engorgement and ineffective infant feeding patterns?

How likely is it that you have an infection related to breastfeeding if you have breast engorgement and ineffective infant feeding patterns?

Likely: If your breast is painful, red, swollen (besides engorgement) or you are feeling sick or have fever, do not delay - you could have mastitis and this needs prompt attention. Nurse VERY FREQUENTLY, massage breast to try and get the milk flowing, use pump if you have one to relieve engorgement. If those things aren't working , though, seek care today at an urgent care center or ER if you're ill. ...Read more

Fungal skin infection affecting genitals. Can I get it from bf?

Fungal skin infection affecting genitals. Can I get it from bf?

Depends...: ...On what kind. If you have a vaginal yeast infection, that can be gotten from (or transmitted to) a sexual partner. "jock itch" is a different organism, usually occurs outside of the vagina itself, and to the best of my knowledge, there is no credible evidence that you can catch it from another person. ...Read more

What skin infection can make your finger red, hard, and clear stuff comes out? How can I get rid off it at home?

What skin infection can make your finger red, hard, and clear stuff comes out? How can I get rid off it at home?

Difficult to say: without seeing/examining the finger. Is there a hard lump that is draining clear fluid? I would not recommend trying a home remedy without knowing for sure what you are dealing with. It could be a ganglion cyst or a viral vesicle, contact dermatitis, or some other infection, all of which would be treated differently. One safe thing you can do till u see MD, is soak finger in warm/hot saltwater. ...Read more

I'm a breastfeeding mom and have cold. Will my baby also get cold if I breastfeed her?

I'm a breastfeeding mom and have cold. Will my baby also get cold if I breastfeed her?

Perhaps: Colds and viral respiratory infections are common, but does not mean a nursing mother has to stop nursing. Some mothers use masks during feeding if they are coughing a great deal. Others pump and have other family members bottle feed. In all cases wash your hands! hope you feel better soon. ...Read more

Can you please tell me what I did wrong to get chronic bacterial skin infection?

Perhaps nothing: Difficult to know what you mean by bacterial skin infections, but if these are boils that some people call spider-bites they may be due to methicillin-resistant staph aureus. You do not necessarily have to do anything "wrong" to get these, but occasionally they can be produced by your coming in direct contact with lesions in another person. ...Read more
