I was put on atenolol (25mg daily) to control my anxiety related heart rate. I developed benign PVCS. Is it possible the drug can cause this?

Unclear question: Are you asking if atenolol can cause PVCs? It that's your question then the answer is no. Atenolol is a beta blocker, that is it blocks adrenalines irritating effect on the heart. Thus, it is actually used to treat symptomatic PVCs. Caffeine, insomnia, stress can all precipitate PVCs. ...Read more

Can heart palpitations caused by anxiety and panic disorder be dangerous? I had ecg, echo and a 24 hour holter check out ok with 20+ PVC shown.

Can heart palpitations caused by anxiety and panic disorder be dangerous? I had ecg, echo and a 24 hour holter check out ok with 20+ PVC shown.

Palpitations: Can be caused by panic and anxiety disorders. But people suffering with panic and anxiety disorders can also have other common medical disorders manifested by palpitations. A simple ecg, echocardiogram and holter monitor do not adequately determine completely normal cardiac function. If they persist you need to pursue an explanation but with your doctor. This forum is inadequate. ...Read more

Are PVCs from anxiety common? Dangerous?

Are PVCs from anxiety common? Dangerous?

PVCs are common: PVCs (Premature Ventricular Complexes) are common. Many normal people have a few PVCs. In some people they become more frequent. If there is no evidence of organic heart disease, with normal left ventricular function, and no ischemia (that is, no blockage in the coronary arteries), as shown by a normal EchoCG and a Stress test, PVCs are harmless. Anxiety may increase PVCs in some people. ...Read more

How much propranolol is too much? I currently take 20mg for anxiety/PVCs but see others are helped by 80mg before anxious event. 30 female 163lbs 5 6"

The maximal dose for: The treatment of hypertension in someone your size would be 32 times as much as you are taking. (640mg/day.) How much is the appropriate dose for you and your problem is that dose which relieves your symptoms without causing unwanted side effects. Some people need more and some need less but overall for the treatment of anxiety and palpitations the dose range is very low. 20mg to 160mg is OK. ...Read more

My PVC'S are benign but they are killing me only get like 6 a day that I feel. I don't know what to do with my life!! Anxiety killing me.?

Anxiety = worrying: About things that may not happen or, if they do, may not hurt you. If 24-hour monitoring of your heart rate & rhythm shows nothing for you to " obsess" about, but you can't stop, see your primary care for referrals to a psychiatrist & psychologist for evaluation & treatment of anxiety disorders. Chronic anxiety alters levels & functions of brain chemicals, so address it now. ...Read more

40yr f diabetes2. Heartrate 40-65 resting. Holter =15% PVC w/3 episodes of 4 sustained beats. Metropole 25mg 1xday. Anxiety. What to do to improve?

Needs treatment: That's too a high a number of pvcs and can lead to a cardiomyopathy. You need to be screened for coronary disease with a stress test, if it hasn't already been done and you need an echo to look for structural heart disease. Then your pvcs should be suppressed or ablated. You are hopefully under the care of a cardiologist or electrophysiologist. This is more than "anxiety". Good luck. ...Read more

Why when I get a PVC I feel a quick instant loss in breath and sometimes cough? This is so scary and starts my worry and anxiety

Lung disease and PVC: Actually, the underlying lung issue (copd, asthma, bronchitis or emphysema) can be one of the causes of premature ventricular contraction, which is the result of the left ventricle of the heart contracting too early before receiving the expected signal from the sino-atrial node. Hypoxia, or a lack of oxygen in the blood, can lead to this issue. ...Read more

Generalized anxiety disorder for 9 months now. I don't take meds. Today I got 2 PVC in a row. Is this related to anxiety. I don't have serious symptoms.?

GAD: You write an interesting question -- saying you have gad for 9 months, it's not serious, are on no medications, but you have pvc's. Pvc's can come from anxiety as well as many other issues, so please see your physician very soon. Gad can be a serious problem because it limits your enjoyment and participation in life. Good treatments (not limited to medications) are available. Ask your doctor. ...Read more

Bp runs 117/73, checked it yesterday 151/102, after seeing that got anxiety it jumped to 163/112. take bystolic (nebivolol) for PVCs, seems to do that on and off?

Anxiety: I think you might be psyching yourself out! Try this: put your cuff in your lap and watch TV. When the commercial comes on, without moving around or looking for your cuff, check your BP at least 3 times. If it's falling, keep checking it till it levels out. The low one is the basal (correct) BP. If it's stable, average the 3. This is your true BP. ...Read more
