Do antidepressant drugs like zoloft or paxil (paroxetine) affect thyroid function? Is it safe to take thyroid booster with antidepressant medicine? Thanks

See answer: Antidepressants don't affect thyroid function. Safe to take thyroid medication together with antidepressants as prescribed. Some symptoms of depression and thyroid disorder may overlap. However, the cause may be one or the other. Lengthy medical training provides that expertise. Take care.

If my grandma has thyroid problems could I and what causes bad thyroid or what makes it bad?

If my grandma has thyroid problems could I and what causes bad thyroid or what makes it bad?

Possible: Autoimmune thyroiditis, the commonest being hashimoto's disease, does indeed have a strong genetic predisposition, more from the mom's side. Of course it will still depend on what type of thyroid problem your gm has. If you think you are experiencing symptoms of low thyroid such as hair loss, excessive fatigue, memory loss or cold intolerance, then please have your pcp check your thyroid levels.

Can neck trauma due to a car accident cause thyroid problems?

Usually hemorrhage: Hemorrhage from trauma into normal thyroid gland is rare but can cause hoarseness and difficulty breathing if large mass effect. Diagnosis of thyroid gland hematoma can be made with laryngoscopy and cervical computed tomography. This can be treated conservatively with eventual decrease in size and improved clinical condition. Obviously need to be under doctor's supervision. Thyroid returns to normal.
