Can An Xray Show A Herniated Disc
Wear and tear can cause degeneration in the vertebral column, and cause discs to deteriorate. The supportive basket, nucleus fibrosis develops small tears. A bulge is minimal perhaps a few millimeters, and is clinically insignificant, but additional disc displacement such as protrusion or herniation may compress ...Read more
Could X-ray of low back show a spinal tumor? X-ray was done for follow up for a flare up of a herniated disc. Severe low back pain where herniation is
Only at later stage: X=ray is not a good screening tool for spinal tumor, as visualization of a radiolucent defect on x-rays requires a 50% destruction of the vertebral body. One typically notices a sign called "winking owl sign" on plain x-ray as a late presentation of spinal tumor. There are better ways of visualizing and diagnosing spinal tumors. X-rays are least preferred as it is not very sensitive. ...Read more
Going to ER for back injury. Will X-ray show herniated disk? MRIs not done in local ER, unsure if muscle or disk is problem.
Not X-rays MRI rec'd: MRIs for the lumbar spine are not usually urgent, thus it would be a good idea for you to see your primary care MD or a spine specialist who can order this. In young people usually back pain is a muscle issue as the discs are only likely to be bulging. The typical treatment is Physical therapy for core strengthening and muscle relaxants or anti-inflammatories as needed for symptomatic relief. ...Read more

After epidural: Injection your symptoms hopefully will improve for several weeks. You may need a series of three injections spaced 2-4 weeks apart. Your SI joint can be injected at the same time. Report your findings to your neurosurgeon. He or she will help you make surgery decision based on how you do. If injection doesn't help, you may need surgery sooner. ...Read more

I have all symtoms of a herniated disc for the C8 nerve root, but MRI shows normal, I've had no trauma. Pain lasting for 11 yrs, im 28. Any diag ideas?
MRI not perfect: Mri is the more clear image we have. It doesn't pick up everything. After 11 years you can know you don't have anything dangerous. If you have all the symptoms at C8 (as diagnosed by a neurologist), it is likely C8 causing the problem. After autopsy they have found problems with people at a microscopic level that couldn't be seen on mri. Unfortunately, that doesn't help your pain. ...Read more
Will a healed herniated disc or bulging disc still show up in an mri? At times I can feel something moving in my lumber. To be specific I describe the feeling as separated movement, almost like two discs had moved either into place or out of place at the
Mri is a study that evaluates the anatomy of the body. Referring do a disc, I am assuming a herniated disc. If the disc has repaired and is no longer herniated, this will show one follow-up mri.
If I can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate.

Herniated Disc: Yes, an MRI should still show a herniated disc even after anti-inflammatories have been used. The drugs should help reduce swelling, but a herniated disc is a physical bulge from the disc pushing into the vertebral canal causing pressure on one or more nerve roots. No drugs can change that, even if they make the perceived pain less. ...Read more

Mri shows an L4 herniated disc, but I've experienced no back pain, only sciatica. Could prolotherapy be a viable option?
Maybe: Prolotherapy is well researched and offered treatment that has shown good success for axial back pain, not sciatica. This strengthens the ligaments around the facet joint and therefore reducing stress on the joint by tightening them up. There are some other treatments like stem cell injections that can help as well. Neither of these treatments are covered by medical insurance though. ...Read more
Why didn't my medicine "percocet" or "ativan" show up in my drug screen? I have a herniated disc in my lower back and panic attacks, I take my medicine daily, just as prescribed, but neither showed up in my drug test... Can you help me?
Percocet is a narcotic (opiate class) pain medication made up of a combination of oxycodone and Acetaminophen (tylenol). It would show up in a drug test as oxycodone or as an opiate depending on the test. Ativan (lorazepam) is a benzodiazepine called Lorazepam used for anxiety and a few other problems. Since Ativan (lorazepam) is the brand name, it usually show up in drug tests under it's generic name Lorazepam or as a benzodiazpine which is it's class of medication.
If nothing showed up in your urine drug test and you are taking these medications daily as prescribed, you may want to call your doctor and have it repeated. ...Read more

Experiencing pain and tingling in left leg/foot. MRI shows herniated disc L4 L5 with L5 nerve impingement but EMG was normal. Get a 2nd EMG?
Physical therapy: In a case where there are symptoms of nerve impingement, and some tests show it (MRI) and others don't (EMG), this may reflect the positional and postural nature of the way our spinal cord and nerve roots move in our body. Rather than get more testing, consider physical therapy. If several weeks of PT had no benefit, then follow-up in person with a neurologist, physiatrist, or neurosurgeon. ...Read more

Pain: First question - were any of these MRI findings believed to be the cause of the back and left side pain? Has an orthopedic surgeon been consulted? If not, recommend that. Depending on his/her findings - there may be a number of treatment options. Acupuncture won't fix the actual intervertebral disc problems but it can often reduce inflammation in the surrounding area & improve range of motion, ...Read more

No: X-ray will reveal the space between the vertebral bodies where the disc is found but unless the disc is calcified, it will not be visualized as x-ray energy will pass through this soft tissue structure while it does not penetrate the bone but you can get idea of how degenerative the disc may be by seeing how narrowed the disc space is or amount of bone spurs seen around it. Sciatica.: Sciatica is the symptom complex that results from a herniated disc that compresses the sciatic nerve. Look high: A disc herniation at l5s1 can't explain your symptoms so logically treating it would not expect to resolve. It is probably best to avoid heavy lifting, bending, twisting for about a month. Otherwise, stay active. ...Read more
Herniated Disk: The bones (vertebrae) that form the spine in your back are cushioned by small, spongy discs. When these discs are healthy, they act as shock absorbers for the spine and keep the spine flexible. But when a disc is damaged, it may bulge or break open. This is called a herniated disc. It may also be called a slipped or ruptured disc. ...Read more
