Am 32 - no children yet. Best way to determine 1.Ovarian cancer-pap smear or ca 125 & 2.Breast cancer-mammography or ca 15-3 granny died of ovarian ca?

Exam: I would not recommend obtaining a ca-125 as it is a nonspecific test in patients without ovarian cancer. I would recommend a gynecologic exam. At your age, I would recommend a yearly breast exam. I would start obtaining mammograms at age 40. Hope this helps. ...Read more

I had an abnormal pap smear low grade. Does this mean cancer?

I had an abnormal pap smear low grade. Does this mean cancer?

Not cancer: If your pap smear shows LSIL, which stands for low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion, most doctors will not do anything immediately. You will probably be asked to come back in six months for another pap smear to see if the lesions are still present. In many cases, the lesions disappear over time and there are no further problems. If you return for your second pap smear and the finding is still present, you will probably be advised to have a coloposcopy done. A coloposcopy is a procedure performed in a doctor's office and is typically the first step in diagnosing cervical cancer ...Read more

Please answer, if one had ovarian cancer, could it metastasis to pelvis and present on pap as cin 1?

Pap and ovarian CA: First just remember a Pap test is only good for finding cervical CA. It doesn't find ovarian or uterine CA. That's why ovarian CA is called the silent CA and uterine CA presents with bleeding. Your abnormal pap is not even at a level where it would be CA yet. Talk to your doctor and ask if the CA cells from the ovarian CA look like the pap. Sounds like u have a new problem. Hang in there! ...Read more
