Can An Abdominal Ct Genetically Damage My Eggs
Computed tomography is also known as CT scan. Ct uses xrays taken an 360 degrees combined with a computer to see"inside" the body. The table moves as the xray tube and detectors spin around the patient 10 times a second or more! the image shows excellent soft tissue detail, enhanced with injection of intravenous contrast or oral contrast. This way the body is shown in slices, in any plane, usually axially, but ...Read more
CT vs. Ultrasound: A ct is excellent at seeing most pathology of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis. An ultrasound is far less expensive, has no radiation involved, and is a great screening tool. An ultrasound is great for detecting gallstones, and kidney related issues, but might lead to a ct or MRI for detecting more obscure pathology. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have had previous reaction to to iodine iv, will they still give me the IV with a abdominal ct? It's on my record, dr ordered with and w/o.Am afraid
It depends.: If the exam requires IV contrast to make the diagnosis, you may need to take medicine before the study. Usually patients that require contrast who have had a prior reaction will take a combination prep of steroids and benedryl if you really need contrast. I'd call your doctor's office and/or the radiology department. It's much better to work this out ahead of time! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Technique: Routine CT with contrast is usu. done with images taken with about a 90 sec delay after contrast is given IV. Images are viewed as cross sections and often sagittal (side views). Some places include coronal (frontal) too. CT urography also includes a set of 12-15 minute delayed images which are then reformatted in 3D. See picture. Both techniques often also employ non-contrast imaging as well. ...Read more
How risky is an abdominal CT scan for a 34 year old male? Starting to get nervous after reading a lot of material online.
Too long to list: Ct scan is a form of x-ray in which the radiation source & detectors rotate around the patient as she moves through the plane of the beam. As with all x-rays, it measures different density to the radiation, but the computer takes the raw data and reconstructs cross sectional images like slices of bread. While still limited to differences in density, it can resolve to a few millimeters. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Several things: Can be seen on ct scan. The oral contrast helps deliniate some of the intestinal findings. Other organs are also seen such as liver, pancreas, gallbladder, aorta, lymph nodes, kidneys, urinary bladder, uterus or prostate, vertebral column, etc. Some structures are seen better than others. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
