Can Amox Clav 875 Mg Be Used To Treat Tooth Ache
Took amoxyclin for 6 days, still I have tooth infection. Started taking augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) for a day, will it help? Severe tooth pain
Tooth Infection: Antibiotics alone will not solve your problem. What exactly is the problem? A non vital nerve? A periodontal abscess? Your dentist many have to drain the abscess to promote healing, or may have to begin root canal therapy to remove the dead nerve and toxins within the tooth. The longer you wait, the worse the pain will get. Read moreSee 8 more doctor answers
4 infected teeth pulled on tues. Today I still have very sore and swollen lymph nodes on the same side of my neck. On augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) still. Should I worry?
Probably not: Healing takes time. My first question is are you getting better each day or worse? By today the swelling should be starting to go down. Remember you had an infection of four teeth, then you had and injury - the extractions. Finally, antibiotics are not a miracle drug and, most of all, they take days to work. Drink lots of fluids, stay hydrated. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I'm going to india on feb 2. My doctor perscribed mefloquine for me to take. But I have a tooth ache. Another doctor perscribed amoxicillin be taken. Which one should I take?
Don't wait!: Make sure you get a complete and thorough dental examination as soon as possible. Then make sure that you get whatever dental treatment is necessary to prevent a flare-up or dental emergency while you are away. If that happens, you will not be a happy camper trying to find a competent dentist to treat you. Don't rely on medications alone. When you get back, complete the rest of your treatment. Hi. I have a tooth ache / tooth infection and I am trying to nurse it til I can make it to a dentist. I found some amoxicillin I had from before 500 mg. Can I just take 1 or 2 pills per day 1 in morning and 1 at night till I can get to them in a few da
Yes: It is never a good idea to diagnose and treat yourself. You should contact your dentist to be treated for the emergency. However, if that is not possible, and have pain and swelling, the antibiotics may help. If you have no allergies to penicillin, you should take three tablets daily or every eight hours for the infection. You could also contact your MD for some medication. Feel a sensation in my throat. I have an abscess tooth being treated by augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) Could this be my anxiety getting the best of me or a actual problem?
Antibiotic: What's the sensation? May be anxiety, may be allergic reaction to the Penicillin. Talk to the prescribing practitioner or go to ER. Note that antibiotics don't cure infected teeth, just limit the spread of infection until you can have root canal treatment or extraction accomplished. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
YES: Unless you are allergic to this medication. Read more
Good, but. .....: It will work, but the decision about which antibiotic is best is based on an exam, history, other factors. The antibiotic you suggest may be too much, or may be just right. The dosage is critical for resolution of the infection. See a dentist, and there are several good ones in Jackson, Tn. Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Not the preferred: Although it would work, amox-clav (augmentin) is mostly for upper respiratory infections of sinuses and is more expensive than standard amoxicillin. Plain amoxicillin, penicillin, or Clindamycin would be better and can be in either tablet or liquid form, dosage titrated to your weight and taken every 6 or 8 hours on schedule for 7 to 10 days. Mild tooth absess. Dr prescribed Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) 2g at once and 1g to be taken twice per day for the next 6 days. Isn't dosage too high?
Nope: Follow your dentist's advice. If you have any concerns you should really be discussing them with your dentist. Read more
Usually Amoxicillin: Amoxicillin is a very good broad spectrum antibiotic. Low cost and typically works well -so long as you are not allergic. Although if the infection is due to acute periodontal disease, the initial treatment could be Arestin (tetracycline family) placed into the gumline pocket. Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Is it best to wait until infection is gone before having the infected tooth extracted? Currently on Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) 875-125, 2x daily x 14 days. Thanks!
Hello, I have been taking sulfamethoxazole for a bad tooth infection but it not doing job so I'm switching to Amox-clav 875-125. Do you think this ant?
Tooth infection: Tooth infections require definitive treatment by a dentist. Any antibiotic or combination of antibiotics will not resolve the issue. Who put you on the Sulfa drug? My guess is that you are self administering your medications which if true is useless. If under the care of a dentist- discuss with him/her. If not go to one! Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Can I have IV augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) if tablet based (3/day 500/150) doesn't work on tooth infection even after 7 days?

I heard augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) is combined of amoxicillin and some acid. Is it possible for someone amoxicillin works abit but not augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) for tooth infection?
Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) is good: It is commonly used for dental infection and abscesses. Clavulanic acid dissolves the outer membrane of the bacteria if the bacteria has developed some resistance to amoxicillin. Anyway, if you do have a tooth infection, you really need to see a dentist for a definitive treatment. Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Tooth abscess: If you are self medicating, probably never (without also treating the cause of the infection). If it was prescribed by a dentist, you need to discuss what to expect from the prescribing dentist. Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) would not be my first choice of antibiotics for dental infections. If the swelling does not diminish within 2-3 days, you need to let your dentist know that immediately. If it worsens, even sooner. Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers
Have had a tooth abscess for three months just swelled up recently. Its hard and doesn't hurt but uncomfortable. Will augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) 875mg take swell down?
Had a tooth abscess for months, recently swollen again augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) doesn't seem to be working after 3 days Cant get seen til wed. Will I be ok til then?
Get it seen soon: Having taken the same antibiotic before, the bacteria may have grown resistant to it. Additionally, not only will the pain of pus under pressure be unbearable, you run the risk of getting a blood infection, bone infection or most seriously, a Central Nervous System infection. Get it seen over the next few days if not, today. Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
