Tooth Infection: Antibiotics alone will not solve your problem. What exactly is the problem? A non vital nerve? A periodontal abscess? Your dentist many have to drain the abscess to promote healing, or may have to begin root canal therapy to remove the dead nerve and toxins within the tooth. The longer you wait, the worse the pain will get. ...Read more

Probably not: Healing takes time. My first question is are you getting better each day or worse? By today the swelling should be starting to go down. Remember you had an infection of four teeth, then you had and injury - the extractions. Finally, antibiotics are not a miracle drug and, most of all, they take days to work. Drink lots of fluids, stay hydrated. ...Read more

Taken amox tr-k for an issue and it ended up giving me a tooth ache, do I stop taking it or continue to. The tooth is bad but had no tooth ache until ?

Not related: Very unlikely that the Amoxicillin caused the toothache. You say the tooth was already bad, so probably just a coincidence. Continue the antibiotic and see your dentist. ...Read more

When taking amoxicillin for a tooth ache,is it normal to have a major increase in pain for the first few days?

When taking amoxicillin for a tooth ache,is it normal to have a major increase in pain for the first few days?

Toothache: Antibiotics can "help" control pain, but will not heal the cause (infection) of the toothache. An increase in pain is an indication that the infection is getting worse. See a dentist and have the teeth treated. ...Read more

Don't wait!: Make sure you get a complete and thorough dental examination as soon as possible. Then make sure that you get whatever dental treatment is necessary to prevent a flare-up or dental emergency while you are away. If that happens, you will not be a happy camper trying to find a competent dentist to treat you. Don't rely on medications alone. When you get back, complete the rest of your treatment. ...Read more

Yes: It is never a good idea to diagnose and treat yourself. You should contact your dentist to be treated for the emergency. However, if that is not possible, and have pain and swelling, the antibiotics may help. If you have no allergies to penicillin, you should take three tablets daily or every eight hours for the infection. You could also contact your MD for some medication. ...Read more

Feel a sensation in my throat. I have an abscess tooth being treated by augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) Could this be my anxiety getting the best of me or a actual problem?

Antibiotic: What's the sensation? May be anxiety, may be allergic reaction to the Penicillin. Talk to the prescribing practitioner or go to ER. Note that antibiotics don't cure infected teeth, just limit the spread of infection until you can have root canal treatment or extraction accomplished. ...Read more

Good, but ......: It will work, but the decision about which antibiotic is best is based on an exam, history, other factors. The antibiotic you suggest may be too much, or may be just right. Is it okay to take amox-clav liquid 400mg as an adult for a tooth infection?

Is it okay to take amox-clav liquid 400mg as an adult for a tooth infection?

Not the preferred: Although it would work, amox-clav (augmentin) is mostly for upper respiratory infections of sinuses and is more expensive than standard amoxicillin. Plain amoxicillin, penicillin, or Clindamycin would be better and can be in either tablet or liquid form, dosage titrated to your weight and taken every 6 or 8 hours on schedule for 7 to 10 days. ...Read more
