Why your ?: If you are trying to treat yourself, then don't as you will be unsuccessful. I'm currently taking levofloxacin 500mg tablets for a sinus infection, can this also be used to treat the yeast infection i've developed?
It likely caused it.: Levofloxacin in a broad spectrum antibiotic that not only kills bad bacteria, but also the good ones that maintain an environment that is hostile to yeast. Most likely, the very antibiotic you think could be used, is likely what contributed to the cause of your infection. I would recommend a dose of Fluconazole (diflucan) 150mg by mouth. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Not first choice: Cefuroxime is an antibiotic, but not the first choice for oral infections because it is more effective against bacteria that aren't found in abundance in the mouth. It may help a bit until you see a dentist for an evaluation and given a proper antibiotic for your infection. Penicillin or Amoxicillin are usually prescribed and if you are allergic then Clindamycin would be an alternative. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Not recommended: Clindamycin would probably work for a sinus infection, but it is best to take antibiotics under the direction of a doctor. Many docs have moved away from using clindamycin because of the real side effects associated with it, including C diff. I've been switched from Biaxin to Cipro (ciprofloxacin) to treat middle ear infection because Biaxin didn't help me. I need to take it for 7 days. Is this enough?
Usually enough: Usually a seven day course of Cipro (ciprofloxacin) would be enough to treat the infection if the cause is bacterial and it is sensitive to Cipro (ciprofloxacin). Since it did not respond to Biaxin, I encourage you to follow-up with your physician at the end of treatment to make sure things are clear. You may still have a little fluid left in the ear, but the redness and cloudiness should have cleared up. ...Read more

Can a middle ear infection be treated by Levaquin (levofloxacin) 500mg qd x7 days? I know Amoxicillin is preffered but will Levaquin (levofloxacin) work?
What can I substitute amoxicillin with if I'm allergic to penicillin? It will be used to treat swollen gum

It can be very contagious, spreading from one eye to the other or to other people. Hand washing is essential.
