Im 18 and i have a lazy eye can it be corrected without surgery??

Im 18 and i have a lazy eye can it be corrected without surgery??

Hard to say: If your lazy eye (poor vision or lack of vision) has gone on long enough, the strabismus becomes a symptom, rather than the cause, since the eye is not kept on target by the brain. The longer your brain ignores the weaker eye, the more risk vision will never be recovered. At that point surgery is just cosmetic.Review the issue with the eye surgeon. ...Read more

To what degree can a lensectomy correct astigmatism? I have heard that a lensectomy can correct astigmatism. I'm excited about this since my condition rules out laser corrective surgery. Is this an effective treatment for astigmatism? Am i likely to still

Yes and no......: Astigmatism can be caused by both your lens and your cornea. Usually, most of it is caused by your cornea. If you remove your lens you would need to replace it with an aritifical lens, preferably with a toric implant to offset the corneal astigmatism. This is called refractive lens exchange. Lensectomy just removes your lens, which may rarely remove astigmatic lens but leaves you very blurry. ...Read more

What will my vision be after lasik surgery? I am severely nearsighted and currently wear glasses that correct my vision to nearly 20/20. I am concerned that laser eye surgery will not be able to restore my vision to that level. Can lasik return my vision

If : If your ophthalmologist feels that you qualify for lasik surgery, then there is a good chance that you will reach the 20/20 level after lasik surgery, as over 90% of patients undergoing lasik reach 20/20 after surgery. However, not everyone qualifies for lasik (especially those patients with high levels of nearsightedness such as over -10.0 d) and not everyone achieves 20/20 vision. My advice would be to have your eyes evaluated and then ask your surgeon to give you an estimate of what your particular chances are for reaching 20/20. ...Read more

I am a high uncorrected myope. Corrected: 20/20. If I get cataracts removed, will I have 20/20 if I do not get lasik with cataract surgery?

Do you wear a special type of contact lens 4 your best 20/20 vision? Cataract vision outcomes are very good. A variety of Intraocular lenses are available to achieve the best uncorrected vision, & yes, sometimes LASIK can enhance the outcome ...Read more

How old should you be before you have eye surgery (to correct your eye sight)?

18 or older: Laser vision correction (lasik) is the most common surgery to correct vision. It is approved by the fda for treatment on those who are 18 or over. The reasoning behind this cutoff is that the eye's shape and therefore prescription continue to change until one is about 18. For this reason age and prescription stability are both important prior to having lasik. ...Read more

If : If you are not a good candidate for lasik, the alternatives are the implantable contact lens or a lensectomy. The latter is essentially a cataract surgery before the eye's natural lens has developed a cataract. Naturally there are pros and cons to these refractive surgeries. While it is impossible to guarantee an uncorrected visual acuity of 20/20 with any refractive surgery, most patients are very pleased with their result. ...Read more

How old do you need to be to get laser eye surgery? Do you need to be a certain age? My eyes are still changing and my vision is getting worse, but i'm interested in getting corrective surgery. How long do I need to wait after getting glasses?

The : The food and drug administration (fda) has approved laser vision correction after age 21. Should should definitely wait until at least that age, although some people's eyes change until their mid to late 20's. Make sure your vision is stable before proceeding. If I get laser eye surgery will I still need to have reading glasses when i'm older?

If I get laser eye surgery will I still need to have reading glasses when i'm older?

Likely reading glass: If you are already wearing reading glasses or bifocals before lasik, you will likely still need glasses for near after. Lasik typically corrects the distance vision permanently. After age 40, near vision still needs an additional reading glass correction. There is an option to purposely undercorrect one eye (leaving it near sighted) to allow spectacle free vision - this is called monovision. ...Read more
