I've been getting swollen upper eyelids (both) in mornings for like a month now. Is it allergies or blepharitis?

I've been getting swollen upper eyelids (both) in mornings for like a month now. Is it allergies or blepharitis?

Could be both: Both allergy and blepharitis can cause chronically recurrent lid swelling. However, blepharitis is more common to cause the problem overnight. Allergy would tend to be a problem all of the time (with severe itching too), unless you are allergic to pillow case, detergent, etc. Blepharitis can respond to warm compresses, lid cleaning, and eye ointments, while allergy responds to oral antihistamines. ...Read more

Hi im bernadette, I suffer very swollen upper eyelids. They're actually painful. No allergies.. what diuretics can I try?

Not allergic: Upper eyelid swelling is unlikely to be from fluid retention. If they are painful, you really need to see an eye doctor to make sure there's nothing more serious - don't wait another day longer. ...Read more

Swollen eyelid - could it be from an allergy?

Possibly yes: Swelling of the lids is common in allergy because the eyelid skin is very thin and sensitive. Some people can be allergic to cosmetics that only cause eyelid reactions (not other parts of the face or body). With allergy, usually the lids of both eyes are swollen and itching is prominent. Cool compresses and antihistamines can relieve the swelling. ...Read more

Swollen right eyelid for over a month. Went to doctors and they said its allergies. Nothing's curing it? Kinda hurts

Swollen right eyelid for over a month. Went to doctors and they said its allergies. Nothing's curing it? Kinda hurts

Eye lid allergy: Swelling of the eye lids in a female is typically caused by make-up allergy. Stopping make-up for two weeks will usually prove this as a cause (if you get better). It would be difficult to explain why only one eye-lid is involved if allergy was your problem, see an opthalmologist for a better diagnosis. ...Read more

All of a sudden my left eyelid had a lump now its swollen all the way. And i have.Allergies what can be the cause of this ? And how long will it last

Infection likely: A lump in the eyelid is often a stye or chalazion, which is a blockage of an oil gland in the lid. However, if the whole lid becomes diffusely swollen and tender, then it is probably infected (cellulitis), and this should be promptly treated, usually with oral and topical antibiotics. Sometimes allergies could cause lid swelling, but not usually just on one side. ...Read more

Its tough to figure out even after examining a patient, even tougher without actually seeing the patient. ;-). ...Read more

Swollen eyelids occasionally, was told its contacts & allergies. Swelling usually goes away in 1 day, but both eyes for 3 days now. What can I do?

See doctor: Since there is no itching, this may be from angioedema. But if itching is present, then a contact allergy (including eye makeup , eye drops etc) may be the cause. It is time to consult your eye doctor to find out. ...Read more
