Probably Viral infec: Sore throat is frequently caused by a virus (viral upper respiratory infection). You can take Aspirin or tylenol (acetaminophen) for relief of symptoms but it has to be repeated every 6 to every 8 hours in order to control the fever. Fever should settle down in 3-5 days.
