What is the medicine used to prevent uric acid kidney stones and what are the side affects?

Uric acid stones: Allopurinol and febuxostat are used; side effects include rash, allergy, liver irritation. Work on diet: avoid organ meats; fatty meats and alcohol will elevate uric acid. Avoid these. Also, drink at least 3 liters fluid per day - this dilutes uric acid excretion - and incline diet successfully to mostly whole grain, fruit, and veggies, and nuts, using egg white and fish for protein

I'm 18 right now. I used to have kidney stones earlier. Is it safe for me to take On' Serious mass?

Serious Mass: This is really rich in protein, calcium, sodium, and phosphate. This combination can promote stones. It depends upon your kind of kidney stone but I advise against it. Best to eat egg whites as your protein supplement. Minimize red meat. Eat large amounts of fruit and veggies. Drink 3 liters per day. Include lemonade and lemon extract (ReaLemon). Tell me what kind of stones you had??

Kidney stones in between bladder/kidney why so long to be removed been a week stint inserted can ultra sound be used?

Kidney stones in between bladder/kidney why so long to be removed been a week stint inserted can ultra sound be used?

Depends: The stent was inserted to bypass the stone and so relieve your pain. You did not mention the diameter of the stone but if it is in the mid ureter as you say, it can be handled endoscopically by removal or laser fragmentation. The urologist may decide to use lithotripsy depending on the details of size...Best wishes.

What do you suggest if my child used lithostat (acetohydroxamic acid) to prevent kidney stones. I can't get it any more. Can anyone help?

What do you suggest if my child used lithostat (acetohydroxamic acid) to prevent kidney stones. I can't get it any more. Can anyone help?

Stone prevention: Citrate is the essential ingredient to prevent kidney stones. Sodium or potassium citrate is typically used for children, but is available only by prescription as polycitra or citrapH. Using lemon extract can work just as well. A child can take three tablespoons per day, added to any beverage. Knowing why stones form in your child is essential. Then targeted therapy can be added.

Advice for kidney stone?

Advice for kidney stone?

Kidney stone.: Kidney stones up to 5mm in size will predictably pass on their own. Just drink plenty of water so you produce a lot of urine, dilate those ureters and allow the stone to pass. It may hurt while it's on its way out, but it'll pass. Bigger stones will likely get stuck and will cause tremendous pain and will have to be removed by lithotripsy or cystoscopy.

How to fight kidney stone?

How to fight kidney stone?

A metabolic work-up: The best way to fight stones is to understand your metabolism. I believe that most stone formres should have a metabolic work-up. This should include blood levels of calcium, 24 hour urinalysis (looking at calcium, citrate, oxalate, etc). Good intake of water avoiding certain foods (high in calcium, oxalate) and medications (citarte, diuretics) may be necessary to fight stones.

How often is kidney stone pain?

Depends on site: If the stone is in the ureter (kidney to bladder tube), there is something call "peristalsis", which helps move things along. That would mean a periodicity to the pain: every few minutes. However, if the stone is in the kidney, and blocking the exit, it may be a constant pain; if it is in the urethra (exiting), it may be excrutiating and constant!

How to remove 9 mm kidney stone?

How to remove 9 mm kidney stone?

ESWL, fluids, etc.: Whatever can dissolve or break down the stone is used to remove it. For example, eawl or extracorporial shock wave lithotripsy use shock waves to break up the stone from outside the body. Meanwhile patients are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids to hopefully pass the stone on the urine. If these and other things fail then surgery might be done, as a last option.

How to get a kidney stone passed?

Kidney stones: Medical "expulsive therapy" involves using one or more medications (tamsulisin, ketorolac etc) to dilate and/or relax the ureter, in conjunction with pain control and vigorous oral hydration. The success rate of this approach depends on the size of the stone, your particular ureteral anatomy and your willingness to endure some discomfort in the process.
