Can Acidophilus Cause Constipation
No: These microorganisms are harmless.Get a more detailed answer ›
Probably not: The main cavity causing bacteria is streptococcus mutans. They take in sugars from our diet and convert it to acid which in turn, eats away at the enamel of teeth. Good brushing habits and smart eating habits like minimizing ones refined sugar consumption are the best line of defense against developing cavities. Also, a regular dental check up and Fluoride treatment can help keep decay at bay.See 1 more doctor answer
Can taking a pro biotic cause petechia? I am taking acidophilus 2xday and have petechia on my leg. Was on arm/other leg but went away and "moved"?
No.: None of the causes of petechiae have anything to do with probiotics.
I take pletal. The only side effect I seem to have is gas (very embarassing). Is there anything I can do to rid of gas? I have been taking acidophilus for the problem I am having with gas caused by taking pletal for many years. However, it really doesn't
You: You can consider changing the time of day that you take it, although first check with your doctor. First, keep a diary of what time you take it, and how closely you ate when taking it and what you ate. Then see if there is a pattern. You can try to notice if high fiber foods (vegetables etc) seem to set off your indigestion more. Also try to notice if certain beverages are making it worse. You can also try to notice if it is worse if you are constipated, then aggressively treat the constipation if so (with stool softeners or suppositories).
All not powerful: You want to try different ones and see what is best for you. From joghurt to kefir to health food store tablets. Keep in mind that all are not too powerful. See what is best for you, there is no exact science. Florastor is one that I have seen to be helpful.See 1 more doctor answer
What would cause low lactobacillus acidophilus levels in urine? Havnt been on antibiotics since july. Could yeast tablets like Azo cause levl to drop?
Stool contamination: Normally there are no lactobacilli in the urine. If there are low levels in a stool sample that could be due to antibiotics. If you are eating 6 servings of organic fresh vegetables and 1 apple a day and eating a little yogurt each day you should have good bacteria in your GI tract. Cystectomy is very unusual at age 13. Dilitation and curettage could introduce stool bacteria into urine.
Is it better to start with a OTC yeast infection cream for a yeast infection caused from antibiotics or can a probiotic like acidophilus be effective?
Yeast medication: A yeast medication will work much better.
Of course, but...: ...What are you trying to treat? If you are experiencing a flare of inflammatory bowel disease, please don't self medicate but call your doctor for optimal advice. He/she knows you best.
Yes: Better and more natural way would be to take full fat plain yogurt (you can add fruits or chopped cucumber and garlic) a few times a week for food and other fermented foods. Make sure that the fermented foods that you buy are not pasteurized after the fermentation. It is hard to get such foods. Therefore I do suggest to my patients to prepare their own yogurt, pickles, …… Best, Siranush Cholakian
Often no: Lactobacillus acidophilus is a bacterium found inside the bowel of humans and is considered beneficial flora. It represents 1 species of many in the microbiome (all the living matter in our bowel not us), which makes up ~3# of an adult's body weight. A healthy microbiome makes vitamins for us and balances immunity. Person with milk allergy may have problems with probiotics containing milk.
Not typically: Acidophilus chews are known to cause harmless effects like hiccups, excess gas and belching. Diarrhea, while uncommon, should be minimal. If you experience any of the following side effects : Rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, difficulty breathing, weakness, nausea or vomiting notify your doctor or go to the ER right away.
Yes: Acidophilus and penicillin have a low chance of interaction. Acidophilus itself should not contain any cross-reactive allergens similar to penicillin.
Same thing: Acidophilus is a probiotic, so you really don't need to take both.
Not at all: Go ahead and do so.Get a more detailed answer ›
Should be OK: One recommendation for dosing probiotics is to take them three to four times daily, with the total daily dose between 1 billion to 10 billion cfu (medscape). It seems many studies were done with lactobacillus, but other strains have also shown to be helpful either alone or in combination with each other.
