I've read many stories of women who had normal periods throughout their entire pregnancy. How common is it to have normal periods during pregnancy?

Not normal: I've been an obstetrician for over 10 years and i've never had a patient tell me they had normal periods during your pregnancy. I've heard people talk about it as a phenomenon but i think it's a misnomer. The uterine lining cannot shed during the pregnancy. Women can have bleeding in pregnancy... But not a cycle. ...Read more

Do women with androgen insensitivity syndrome have normal periods?

Do women with androgen insensitivity syndrome have normal periods?

No.: During puberty, girls with androgen insensitivity syndrome don't develop secondary sexual characteristics that require testosterone such as axillary or pubic hair. Since estrogen is present, they grow breasts and develop a thin waist with larger hips, but don't have periods since they lack a uterus. Most often, lack of periods by age 15 or 16 leads to the diagnosis. They cannot become pregnant. ...Read more

How many days before the periods it is safe to have sex?
In brief : which days are infertile days of a women?

Infertile days: The egg can be fertilized up to 1 day after ovulation, so buy an ovulation kit can help. Once ovulation occurs, wait for 3 days before sex. Sionce sperm can live up to 4-5 days inside the uterus, avoid sex 5 days before ovulation. This method works only for women with regular cycles and predictable ovulation. If no ovulation is detected by kit, it's much better to use a form of contraception. ...Read more

What are the odds of infertility in a woman with pocs if the woman has regular periods? If the woman has pocs but her period comes every month on schedule (a few days later or earlier sometimes, nothing too drastic) will she have difficulty having childre

PCOS : Pcos can be a tricky diagnosis since it can overlap and be confused with other conditions. In 2003 a consensus workshop sponsored by two organizations, eshre/asrm, indicated that to be diagnosed with pcos, patients needed to meet 2 out of 3 criteria including irregular or no ovulation (oligo ovulation and/or anovulation) excess androgen hormones (by symptoms or blood tests) and/or polycystic ovaries (by gynecologic ultrasound). Based on these criteria it was determined that approximately 30% of patients diagnosed with pcos will have regular menses, although not always with ovulation. Women with pcos do have problems conceiving mainly from this lack of ovulation. So if you can do testing for ovulation with an ovulation predictor kit or temperature charts and they look normal, then you are probably ok! keep in mind that there are many reasons why people cannot get pregnant including the partner, tubes being blocked, etc. That can also impact fertility. Hope this helps and good luck! ...Read more

Why do some women get pregnant when they have sex during infertile days or right after having their period?

Why do some women get pregnant when they have sex during infertile days or right after having their period?

Fertility: Remember sperm live for up to five days after ejaculation in the female. So, these days leading up to fertility can also cause pregnancy. The reality is that it all depends on the length of the cycle and when a woman truly ovulates. Ovulation and the five days can put fertility to be that week following the menstrual period in some women. ...Read more

I haven't had my period in 6 mos. Obgyn said i was not preg. This is a normal occurance to go w/o for awhile. Does this mean im infertile? Im nervous

Get checked out: No period for 6 months means you're not ovulating regularly. See an ob/gyn or a reproductive endocrinology (rei) physician to find out why: pcos (polycystic ovarian syndrome), thyroid or prolactin problems, low egg supply, or low hormone levels from exercise, stress, eating disorders etc. If not ttc you can take birth control pills. Depending on the cause it may or may not affect future fertility. ...Read more

Frequent use of Plan B made my period irregular. Will it ever get back to normal? I don't like that I have diagnosed for pcos. Will i be infertile?

Prob PCOS : Your periods are probably abnormal due to the pcos not the plan b. Are you infertile? Hard to say. I've had many patients able to conceive with pcos. You need to talk to your doc about your options and if you don't want to get pregnant i would recommend birth control pills. ...Read more

I had sex 6 months before i.E in march after that i had normal periods every month.Bt this month my date was 20 nd i still don't hv them...Why?

Unclear: If your last sex was in march and you had periods since then and now they have stopped, you are not pregnant. Other causes of cessation of periods in a 23 year old are uncommon, but could include a pituitary tumor. See your doctor for evaluation of your endocrine status. ...Read more
