Can A Womans Breast Lactate Without Being Pregnant
Hi, I was wondering how long after conception does a woman experience pregnancy symptoms? I had my period on sept 30, 2011 and my husband and I had unprotected sex on oct 15, 2011. I have been feeling sick to my stomach throughout the day and my breasts
The: The symptoms of pregnancy can start once implantation occurs. This typically happens about 8-10 days after ovulation. Based on your lmp of 8/30/11, you likely ovulated on or around 10/14/11, if in fact you conceived, then the timing for pregnancy symptoms is consistent. There are early prediction pregnancy tests in stores that can predict pregnancy a week before your next period is due. I suggest you take one to be sure, or you can always follow up with your primary care provider or gynecologist for testing. Good luck!
When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more
Is it normal for women not pregnant to lactate? Does it mean something more if it's only in one breast and not bilateral?
No: Lactation without pregnancy is an indication of some hormonal disturbance. You should visit your doctor and let him examine you and order tests to make sure your pituitory gland (located under the brain) is healthy. Sometimes a small adenoma (prolactinoma) in the pituitory gland can cause lactation like you have. It may require blood tests and x-rays of this gland to check you for this condition.
Yes: This is certainly possible and can occur from certain medical conditions (prolactinoma, eg) or medications. Not all breast discharges are normal lactation though and there are other breast related diagnoses that might need to be considered. Probably good to speak with your gyn or primary care provider.
Every now and then I seem to lactate out of one breast only. Is it normal I've had the mirena (levonorgestrel) for 3 years now? I've gotten false pregnancy tests b4
Below: It would be best to check in with your DR. There are some blood tests that need to be done.
Nursing: You will have breast milk as long as you keep breastfeeding the baby. If for some reason you decide to stop then you will stop making more milk although sometimes it is still present for few months.
I have not breast fed or been pregnant before. I'm a young teenage female and my breasts are still growing. Is this healthy, should I be concerned?
What could cause colostrum/milk production in women under 30 who are not likely pregnant? Period is not yet late. Colostrum produced by both breasts
Prolactin: Breast milk is made in your breasts in response to a hormone produced in your pituitary called prolactin. Sometimes galactorrhea (milk production in the absence of a pregnancy) can be due to a tumor in the pituitary. Consider seeing a doctor to have your prolactin levels checked. Good luck!See 4 more doctor answers
Will I lactate/how long will it take? I am a male and I play with my nipples/breasts (small but female tissue) about an hour or 2 a day usualy at once
Playing with nipples: The amount of time you take to stimulate your breasts daily is abnormal. Suggest you obtain psychological counseling to help you to be more comfortable in your life.
Could be an issue: This may or may not truly be milk. In some cases, discharge may not be worrisome, but in other instances it can signal more serious issues. If it continues, you should see a gyn.
Breast pumps, lactai: In non-pregnant women who are adopting a newborn, a combination of pumping, prolactin and a galactologue, such as domperidone, an orphan drug, will result in lactation after a few weeks. This should be done under the supervision of a physician who is a breastfeeding expert and follow one of the available protocols.
Varies with the med: Some medications will transfer into breast milk and some do not. Whether or not their use is safe during breastfeeding is specific to the medication and or the dose. Discuss anything you need to take with the doc, letting them know your concern.
If a baby suckles a woman who has never been pregnant, will woman eventually start to produce breast milk?
Possibly: In the old days "wet nurses" would breast feed another woman's baby for a prolonged period, but most of these wet nurses originally started lactating from their own pregnancies.
Galactorrhea: Possibly. Galactorrhea can occur due to taking certain meds or having specific tumors.
Lactation is the act of making breast milk. The chemical lactate is lactic acid, a product of glucose metabolism. If there are abnormalities of the kidney or the metabolism of glucose, Lactic Acid may be high. Don't confuse lactate with lactose, which is the sugar found in milk that causes gas and cramps in people ...Read more
