Can A Uti Cause Swollen Lymph Node On Left Side Of Throat
My 20 year old daughter has sore throat, swollen lymph nodes and UTI symptoms. Throat culture showed Strep B. Dr gave Keflex- is it necessary?
I'd take it: Strep B is not known as a throat pathogen but does cause an occasional UTI. I would assume the throat issue is viral (no strep A) and the Group B strep as cause of the urinary symptoms. The keflex is a reasonable choice. The throat issue and related nodes should pass in the next week or so with no particular treatment. ...Read more

Fight local infectio: Lymph nodes enlarge in response to inflammation in the area from which their drainage occurs. If you have an infected gum or tooth, have a one-sided tonsillar infection, or other similar conditions, this may be the explanation. If the node continues to enlarge, changes character (becomes hard, fixed, tender, warm to touch, etc.), or fails to resolve in time, have it examined by a doctor. ...Read more
2 wks after 1st gardasil shot swollen lymph node L side of neck. 3 months later, no change. Did the vaccine cause this? I haven't been sick at all.
Unlikely: Gardasil is not a live vaccine, so it is very unlikely that you would have developed chronic lymphadenopathy as a side effect, especially 2 weeks later. Persistent enlarged lymph node > 1 month should be evaluated. Please see your clinician to have it examined. Take Care! ...Read more
My 15 yo has bad acne on left forehead and both sides of his head for 6 mths. 2 mths ago, find a swollen lymph node (<1cm) on left back neck. Related?
See Your Doctor: Acne causes inflammation/infection in the hair follicle units of the skin; reactive regional lymph nodes can occur. Your son's history of "bad acne" would support finding a prominent lymph node in this area however additional features are needed to confirm a benign nature eg. consistency, mobility. See your doctor for definitive assessment & to evaluate adequacy of your son's present acne regimen ...Read more

Lymph nodes: Tammy, every young adult has a couple of palpable lymph nodes. Some folks have a big one here, another there, another somewhere else. How to tell when a lump in the neck is a swollen lymph node or something else? My lump is not sore either. On left side only!
Get examined: I believe these are reactive or benign reactions to your previous story of runny nose but since it is low on neck and on left, have a clinic doc examine that for you. The definite way to tell noninvasively is by radiologic imaging or even a biopsy But those procedures are only planned if your clinic doc saw your person, evaluated your lump and decides. We can not tell by just reading your notes. ...Read more

I woke up with a swollen lymph node on the back left side of my neck. Quite sore and slightly painful?
Monitoring Centers: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts. They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react. They shrink when all is well. ...Read more

Lice: When the lice is eradicated and there are no other causes for the lymph node like infected hair follicle.
