Can A Tooth Be Pulled While Infected
I have a tooth that's infected and needs to be pulled but due to no insurance, nobody will do it. They just threw me on penicillin and pain meds. Any suggestions?

Yes: Just like removing an infected splinter would continue to be sore for a while as it heals an extraction site of a tooth will be sore. Many times it will be a great relief from acute pain as the source of the infection has been removed and pressure from the abscess gone. It still takes time for the tissues injured by infection and trauma of extraction to mend. Soreness is expected.See 2 more doctor answers
If there is drainage from my tooth being infected does that mean the amoxicillion is working? And does it hurt to have a tooth pulled? I'm scared.
Infection: Drainage could happen with or without the antibiotic. Draining is a good thing when on the antibiotic and hopefully means your infection is being treated with the amoxicillin. Usually you'll know is 1-2 days if the antibiotic is working properly as your discomfort and swelling will go down. If you have questions you should go to your dentist.See 1 more doctor answer
I got my infected tooth pulled but the swelling in my cheek is still not going away. What's wrong?
Infection.: There could be an infection remaining. One type, cellulitis, can be serious. I would highly recommend an evaluation by the surgeon/dentist and most likely antibiotic therapy. Other causes are inflammation from the procedure or injection, a hematoma from the injection or bleeding, etc. The best thing to do is get back in to be seen, asap.See 1 more doctor answer

I had an infected tooth pulled on 2/16/14. Was given amoxicillin. Last night 2/21/14 my upper tooth same side started to hurt. Is the amox not working? R can it still be kicking out the infection? Thnks
Call your dentist: Since this is a different tooth than the one which was pulled, please call your dentist and ask for specific advice. You may have a resistant infection, or the location could have been incorrect to begin with. Dentists have emergency call systems -- someone should be covering and be able to respond to you.See 2 more doctor answers
Is there a way I can I reverse a cavity other than a filling or having the cavity infected tooth pulled? I have no dental insurance.
Seek treatment soon: I would suggest seeing if you have any dental coverage through Obamacare. Otherwise, I would seek treatment at a dental school or hospital residency program, which are always looking for patients. Try to see a dentist soon before the infection gets worse.See 6 more doctor answers

I'm 29 weeks preg. My wisdom tooth is coming in and sore. I can't get in to get it pulled for a month. How likely is the wisdom tooth to get infected?
Wisdom tooth: When your pregnant you get bleeding gums and issues w teeth more quickly. Keep your teeth very clean, especially the wisdom area. Use warm salt water rinse for 1 min several times a day. Hopefully it won't get infected by cleaning it well. The gums get inf. Not the tooth usually.See 3 more doctor answers

Can a wisdom tooth extraction site get infected 3 weeks after removal? I'm having some mouth pains around where they were pulled and some in my neck.
Yes: It is possible that you may have lodged some food debris in the healing extraction socket or that there are some spicules of bone or tooth debris that is still in the socket and is exfoliating. Swelling and bleeding would be indications of infection. It's unlikely a dry socket. Neck pain can possibly be muscle strain or TMJ from procedure. Contact the oral surgeon for an evaluation.
I had my wisdom tooth pulled on my left bottom wed may 3 and I am still in pain. I went to the dent today and he said no infect or dry socket.
Normal post op: Your pain is fairly typical post surgery. The problem is that nowadays with the hysteria over opiate narcotics, and fear of addiction, surgeons, dentists and others, refrain from giving pain meds post procedures. You're a victim of that. Use ibuprofen at high doses 800mg every 4-6 hours for pain unless you start having bleeding in which case, return to your dentist.
