Have examination: The feeling of palpitation sometimes don't always correlate with the heart rate although most times they do. It can be from medications, coffee, cigarette or emotional. If it is from the heart it has to be diagnosed to make sure it is not a rhythm problem which can be genetic. A simple ekg or a holter may show the problem or a stress test. Relax: We all have occasional extra heart beats. If you have a structurally normal heart (no weakening of the muscle) and no other familial risk factors (Long QT, ARVD, Cardiomyopathy, etc.) then you really don't have anything to worry about. Ask your doctor to get an EKG and or a 24 hour monitor. A physical exam should be sufficient but if you need more reassurance an ECHO would be beneficial. ...Read more
