I have calcification on my thyroid and some in my neck mass. When I did my fna, the doctor only sampled the thyroid. Why not the mass? Same finding?

I have calcification on my thyroid and some in my neck mass. When I did my fna, the doctor only sampled the thyroid. Why not the mass? Same finding?

It depends,,,: It depends on other tests and what they showed if the doctor did them. For example, an iodine uptake test may be done for a thyroid with nodules and depending on the results there may not have been a need for an aspiration of the nodule. It also depends on what was being looked for, cancer or another disease so more info. Like the aspiration results is likely needed. Best of luck.

What is the probability that a 0.5 CM neck mass (hard but not rock hard) is cancer? It is on the right back side of the neck

What is the probability that a 0.5 CM neck mass (hard but not rock hard) is cancer? It is on the right back side of the neck

Hard to say: Unless an exam, lab work and possibly biopsy is done it is hard to give a probability of whether this is cancer. Characteristics of something cancerous are fixed masses, large, painful in nature. Should there be more concern please see your doctor for more answers.

Neck mass, what can it be, scar tissue?

See a Doctor: A neck mass can be serious so please get checked. I can't tell what a mass is unless I examine a patient and that is hard to do over the internet. It could be a swollen lymph node and that could be from an infection or from cancer so don't fool around. Good luck!

I've been feeling more tired and have some neck mass. When should I see the doctor?

Right away!: Fatigue is a nonspecific symptom and may be due to a variety of factors. But if you detect, or even suspect a mass in your neck, those could be very serious. Thyroid problems, infections, and cancer can all cause symptoms like this. See your family doctor immediately to have this evaluated.

My family doctor sent me to a ENT for a biopsy for my thyriod and neck mass. They both have small calification. Am I looking at surgery?

Small calcification: Small calcifications are seen in the thyroid in some conditions. Usually they are seen in psommoma bodies which are a pathological feature seen in papillary thyroid carcinoma fortunately papillary thyroid cancer is very treatable and has a great chance of cure. Any neck nodes can be removed with a selective neck dissection. The good news is lymph nodes in pap thy cancer do not mean badness.

Follow-up needed: A neck mass at your age is usually an enlarged lymph node. These can enlarge for many reasons, but if the mass has not reduced in size (as it would during a resolving infection), it should be biopsied. Needle biopsy sometimes does not yield a diagnosis and then a formal node biopsy should be done. Also, your doctor may want to do a scan to determine if other lymph nodes are enlarged.

Neck mass: The only definitive diagnosis of any mass is to have it biopsied. There are lymph chains in your neck area, so depending on where it is, it may be simply a benign lymphadenopathy, but again, as stated, the only definitive diagnosis is made by biopsy. An ENT Doctor would be able to perform a therapeutic and diagnostic excisional biopsy of the area if warranted after an examination. Best wishes.

How likely is an about a CM big hard neck mass cancer? Please tell me how likely and don't just say see your doctor. The mass is there for months

How likely is an about a CM big hard neck mass cancer? Please tell me how likely and don't just say see your doctor. The mass is there for months

See below: Jane 581: What is your reluctance to seeing your doctor? It is not feasible to divine the nature of the mass without examining it. It is not likely to be cancer, but it could be other bad things like tuberculosis. A fine needle aspirate may provide diagnostic information.

Tonsil Ulcer: You need to be examined by ENT and will likely need tonsillectomy. May have HPV pharyngitis. Need to also rule out neoplastic pathology, although lower on the list of differential diagnosis.

Neck mass right side assumed lymph node 3cm 2+mo. Fatigue normal CBC chest xray. Ent now said may carotid artery. What can ultrasound determine?

Ultrasound: Can better show what the mass is. An enlarged lymph node looks very different from the carotid artery so this question can be put to rest with an ultrasound.
