Can a low TSH cause hair loss?

Can a low TSH cause hair loss?

Yes: A low TSH usually means that you are have a high level of thyroid hormone in your system and hyperthyroidism can be associated with hair loss. Usually the hair becomes softer and finer with hyperthyroidism as opposed to the hair loss with hypothyroidism which is usually associated with dry coarse hair.

Hair Loss (Definition)

Hair loss, otherwise known as alopecia, can be caused by different reasons, including damage to the hair shaft or follicles or fungal infections. There are two main types of alopecia. Alopecia areata occurs when the body's immune system attacks hair follicles and causes hair to fall out. Androgenetic (or androgenic) alopecia, on the other hand, is an inherited form of hair loss. With alopecia areata, hair can fall out in patches all over the body. With androgenetic alopecia, hair on the head first thins and then falls out. In men, this is called male pattern hair loss; in women, it is called ...Read more

Hair loss secondary to low tsh?

Hair loss secondary to low tsh?

Generally low: Tsh will lead to an increased tendency for hair to break due to poor protein in the hair shaft, but it's not true hair loss. It will restart growing normally when your hypothyroidism is correctly treated with the right dose of brand name T4 replacement.

Hair loss for 18 months in crown area, first due to stress, then perhaps due to very low TSH as a result of Thyroxine dose increase. Iron levels fine. Hair is now finer / softer and continues to shed - will my hair ever go back to how it was?

Wrong assumptions: Iron level not relevant. "Stress" probably not a factor. Very low TSH because of overdosed thyroid probably not part of it. Thin hair on top is very common as women get older. Other meds? Birth control? Menstrual history? Pregnancies? Weight change? When you see a dermatologist be prepared to detail these items. You might be helped by spironolactone or dutasteride.

Can a TSH level of. 52 cause hair loss?

Unlikely: A TSH of 0.52 is in the normal range. It should not be causing hair loss. You might need to look for another cause.

Can stopping BUPRON, LAMITOR, QUITIPAINE cause elavted TSH level & hair loss?

Pharmacist: I'm not aware of any of these medications affecting thyroid function but your pharmacist can advise you as he/she has access to all the information about these medications.

I have pain in hair roots when moving hairs or comb. And lossing 75 to 125 hairs daily. Having thyroxine for high TSH. What is the cause of hair loss?

I have pain in hair roots when moving hairs or comb. And lossing 75 to 125 hairs daily. Having thyroxine for high TSH. What is the cause of hair loss?

Most likely: Due to the hypothyroidism which is now being treated. It will take months after your thyroid level is normalized for the hair breakage to stop, but you won't permanently lose any hair. It regrows, but takes months.

TSH 2.5 is normal: A TSH of 2.5 indicates normal thyroid status, assuming that the pituitary is working normally. An evaluation to check this assumption out might be worthwhile at this point.

Can a TSH of 0.29 cause hair loss. All other test T3 (liothyronine) T4 antibodied. Etc. Were in norm range. I was told I have g.D. But posb in remiss. Never took med?

Very unlikely: Your thyroid level is unlikely to cause hair loss unless your 'normal' TSH is much higher when you have normal thyroid function. Most, but not all, will not have symptoms at this level.

My TSH had increased by more than a point in the last two years, my T3 (liothyronine) is low, I have had fatigue, weight gain, hair loss, moody, 2 sibs hypo. Could i?

Thyroid: You do not stated the TSH levels. When the T3 (liothyronine) is low you can have fatigue, weaknes, low energy... Check with your dr thyroid us, antigens, cortisol, dhea, vit d, . .. Possible you need to chance or increase med. See a family doctor or endoc. Check hormone too.

This is my thyroid test results:T4:11.8/T3:1.9/TSH:0.6. Is there any thing wrong in it? Can it cause or worsen my hair loss process? My doc says it ok.

Looks OK: Hi. Those labs look OK. No one uses total T4 anymore; is your doc old? Free T4 is a much more useful lab test. Anyway, those labs look OK. Nothing about them would worsen hair loss.

4mos post Rad/Chemo 4HNC. TSH rising now 5.02. Loosing hair. RX Levothyroxine, 50mcg causes hair loss. Would I be better w Armour thyroid-treats T3 (liothyronine)?

More info: Hi. I'm not here to guess. Is HNC head and neck cancer? I hate to assume. If so, squamous? All this assumption. You may need more thyroid hormone. Armour (desiccated cadaveric pig thyroid extract) is no better, and certainly less predictable than l-thyroxine. If you prefer Armour, go for it, but effects are the same. Whatever you have, good luck!

Which causes side effect of hair loss and weight gain? Latuda (lurasidone)? Cymbalta? Klonopin? Trazadone? Singulair? Qvar? Dymista.? TSH is normal.

Latuda (lurasidone): Can cause weight gain. None of these are known to cause significant hair loss. Depakote can cause the combination of weight gain and hair loss (breakage)

What besides thyroid can cause light head fluttering in chest hot an cold sweats an excess tiredness? I'm on Med for low tsh.

What besides thyroid can cause light head fluttering in chest hot an cold sweats an excess tiredness? I'm on Med for low tsh.

Check thyroid first: B"sd If being on a med for "low TSH" means treatment with an antithyroid drug for hyperthyroidism, then the first concern is your thyroid status as this requires frequent monitoring. Thyroid function will change depending on the dose and effectiveness of the medication and the course of the underlying thryoid disease. Can you have normal TSH levels & test positive for antibodies? Could thyriod antibodies be why weight & hair loss?

Can you have normal TSH levels & test positive for antibodies? Could thyriod antibodies be why weight & hair loss?

No: These problems may happen only if your thyroid function is abnormal. The presence of thyroid antibodies does not necessarily mean that you have an active disease but you are more at risk in developing thyroid problem or another autoimmune disease because of it.
