Could a hiatal hernia cause back pain just to the right of the spine about 1 inch below the shoulder blade?

Could a hiatal hernia cause back pain just to the right of the spine about 1 inch below the shoulder blade?

Yes: Yes it could. I would have this evaluated as most hiatal hernias do not cause pain unless there is some other problem. The possible problems could range from an early ulcer forming, to a portion of the stomach or other part of the intestine that is partially/intermittently stuck within the hernia and can't get out when it needs to. See a gastroenterologist or a surgeon. ...Read more

Does extended periods of sitting and bowl movements cause pain with a small Spigelian Hernia. How would this type of hernia cause back pain?

Possible: Hernia symptoms typically cause pain at the location of the hernia, a bulge at the same location, and if the intestines are herniated, could cause trouble with the GI tract such as crampy pain or some difficulty with bowel movements. If the bladder is involved, there could be difficulty urinating. Back is usually only caused by large hernias. Best to see a general surgeon for a consultation. ...Read more
