Edema (Definition)

Fluid in the tissues, either caused by something local to the swollen area like an injury or inflammation, or from the body's retention of water. Gravity brings the fluid to the feet & legs in that case. As a general rule, if one foot is swollen, something is wrong with the foot. If both feet are swollen, it's not the feet, but water ...Read more

My husband has these bumps on his legs and one dr said they was hernias but they cause some pain what should be done or what could be done?

My husband has these bumps on his legs and one dr said they was hernias but they cause some pain what should be done or what could be done?

Uncertain: Hernias occur in the groin area, not the legs. He should see a general surgeon for hernia repair, if that is what he has. Alternatively, lumps on the legs could be lipomas instead. A surgeon could give their opinion on best treatment if hernia or lipoma.

Unlikely: There are types of hernias that can cause buttock pain, such as a rare obturator hernia. It's more likely due to a primary musculoskeletal problem with the leg and/or spine.

Can inguinal hernia cause posterior leg pain?

No: The nerves that would need to be impinged exit the spine and traverse the rear of the pelvis, direct and indirect inguinal hernias are anterior to these structures. Other side of the highway, different exit. I encourage you to get a physical exam if you have pain to determine the cause. Good luck.

I have lumbar disk hernia for 10 years, which causes back pain and discomfort in left leg, is surgery a first option?

I have lumbar disk hernia for 10 years, which causes back pain and discomfort in left leg, is surgery a first option?

No: Conservative treatment is recommended first, may include pt/anti inflam med/posture & ergonomics. Other options may include medications that target the nerve, ie, gabpentin/lyrica. Epidural steroid injections can be helpful as well esp. For the leg pain. Surgery may be an option if all else fails, and in urgent situations such as progressive leg weakness and/or loss of bowel or bladder control

What could cause my leg to go cold while having hernia, and left scrotal pain as well as shocking burning pain in the perineal area?

What could cause my leg to go cold while having hernia, and left scrotal pain as well as shocking burning pain in the perineal area?

Hernia: Have you been diagnosed with a hernia? Is it a groin (inguinal) hernia? Groin hernias can cause nerve burning sensory discomfort in the groin or testicle or upper thigh regions. A hernia would not cause a leg to go cold.

What r symps of pulled calf muscle? Can it cause painful twitches? Normal? Other symp bump along lateral side of lower leg when I stand, like hernia

Strain: A strained muscle causes soreness and pain on use and takes a week or so to heal. Occasionally bumps in the lateral calf area are due to small herniations of fat tissue through the muscle. Varicose veins are another possibility. A physician would have to examine you to be sure. Muscle twitches are not commonly due to sprains and can occur spontaneously. Muscle cramps are commonly due to tight musc

Doctor said bilateral peripheral edema is caused by my obesity? Should I get another opinion? Recently had umbilical hernia surgery haven't been active.

Doctor said bilateral peripheral edema is caused by my obesity? Should I get another opinion? Recently had umbilical hernia surgery haven't been active.

Obesity-->edema.: Because of the increase in intra-abdominal pressure due to obesity, venous return of blood from the legs to the heart is impaired, leading to fluid accumulation in the legs. Granted other things could cause this edema, but obesity is one possible cause. Losing weight will obviously help.

I have a possible hernia in low right groin. See surgeon mon. Can a hernia cause muscles down inside of right up leg to cramp? Starting to feel sore

Hernia: If you do have a groin (inguinal) hernia, you can get discomfort at the site. Sometimes the hernia can irritate a skin nerve causing pain to go down the inside of the upper leg, or sometimes into the testicle on the same side as the hernia.

Groin pain since oct 2013. Doctors did CT scan & blood test and said I was normal/no hernia. Nerve pain/shocks in my legs still since feb 2014. Cause?

Groin pain since oct 2013. Doctors did CT scan & blood test and said I was normal/no hernia. Nerve pain/shocks in my legs still since feb 2014. Cause?

Hip a possibility: First, its very difficult to tell without a physical examination and review of your imaging. Arthritis in your hips can often present as groin pain. Hip arthritis would be exacerbated by certain exercise as well. Compression of your lateral femoral cutaneous nerve can also cause nerve pain/shocks. Its not very common though to be bilateral.

Can degenerative disc cause pain in the groin down to the thigh. How can it be treated. Did Ct scan no hernia?

Several things: Can cause that pain. Yes, degenerative disc disease if it's significant. In your age, I'd consider being seen by a pain management doctor. The pain could be from your sacroiliac ligaments or joint, and also a trigger point pain in your upper groin. Disc injury can also give that type of pain. Push and poke on and mark with a pen the specific areas you feel the pain origins and see a pain doctor

What would make my left foot and ankle swell after hernia surgery? Had it done on 12-18-15 and I noticed that my foot started swelling on 12-21-15

What would make my left foot and ankle swell after hernia surgery? Had it done on 12-18-15 and I noticed that my foot started swelling on 12-21-15

Not due to surgery: Swelling of foot and ankle is not a complication of Hernia Surgery.I suggest you have your Doctor check it. It may be due to edema caused by the Iv Fluids if given during the surgery. If it is painful then it may be some kind of trauma. But the surgery will not cause the swelling
