Likely, no: CA 125 is not recommended as a screening tool for ovarian cancer when used in risk-based stratification. Meaning, assuming that your mom or sister didn't get diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Normal for women with endometriosis to have elevated CA-125. It sounds like your doctor has done Ultrasound to evaluate ovaries as well. Your MD knows your history and risk, likely this CA-125 level is normal ...Read more

Yes: Fibroids, benign cysts, endometriomas, and endometriosis can all result in a positive ca-125 test. Ca-125 is not a good screening test for ovarian cancer because there are so many causes of false positives. And furthermore, 50% of st 1 ovarian cancer may have a negative ca-125. GYN-I have simple ovarian cyst and sm fibroids. Severe pelvic/rectal pain. Why is my GYN testing CA-125 if the test is not conclusive detecting CANCER?

Discuss with GYN: No tumor marker is conclusive of cancer. You would need to discuss this with your GYN as to why they feel the need to check a CA-125. They may just be trying to be thorough in your evaluation. ...Read more
