Can A Doctor Perform A Pap Smear Against My Will Or Not
My gynecologist will not perform a pap smear or test for other cancers, what could be the reason why?
Payment?: One reason is that guidelines for screening tests have changed and suggest less frequent testing. If he/she orders tests for you that your insurance regards as 'unnecessary' it won't reimburse you for the expense. There may be different reasons, based perhaps on your healh history. Ask your doctor about this instead of asking a web site to try and read his/her mind, or ask for a referral. ...Read more
Herpes testing: There are two ways to test for herpes. The first is to directly swab the lesion during an outbreak to detect the virus. This is the most definitive but only can be done during an outbreak. The second is a blood test for HSV 2 IgG antibody. This confirms a past exposure. A pap smear is a screening test for precancerous cells of the cervix and is not related to herpes. ...Read more
Can i get an STD test while on my period? Is it normal for a doctor to refuse blood and urine testing to a patient, and only recommend a physical exam
Yes: Testing for STDs can be done while on your period. Some are done on blood drawn from your arm and others on urine or cervical swabs but bleeding does not prevent any of the testing. The only way to know why a physician would want to just do an exam and no blood or urine tests would be to ask that physician. Sorry I can't tell u what the other doctor was thinking. It may have been done to save money ...Read more
Is it standard for an ObGyn to take a cell phone picture during a Pap smear to show a woman a stress based irritation, especially without consent?

If chlamydia was contracted anally, would it show up on a blood test or regular pap smear? Or would an anal pap be the best option?
No.: Even if it is medically recommended. You cannot be forced a medical exam such as a pap smear or a pelvic exam.. Obviously not getting tests or exams done has pros/cons. Make sure you weigh the risks of deciding or not deciding to do a certain exam or test. If pregnant, you're not just making decision for yourself, but also for baby. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Not likely: The only way this could happen is if the office re-uses speculums (the devices to open the vagina to inspect inside) without washing them between patients; or pelvic exams in rapid succession without changing gloves between patients. Both these are very unlikely. Most doctors use one-time disposable speculums, and hard to imagine not changing gloves. But if in doubt, ask the doctor about it. ...Read more
Due a pap smear but just had vag swabs to test for thrush and sti's. Do i need to go again for pap smear or will swabs show same results a pap would?
Different test: A pap smear looks for atypical (pre-cancer) cells. Thrush is candida (yeast). Swabs look for bacterial or viral or yeast infections. You should get a pap smear, but wait a few weeks til your infection is resolved, as a recent infection could cause a falsely abnormal pap smear. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Is it normal to be nervous to have a pap smear done for the first time? Im a virgin and someone told me that during the exam it can break your hymen?
No need to get a pap: If u r 17 and a virgin there is no reason for u to get a pap done. U have wait until u r 21. Also if u r a virgin, u just need to let the dr know so they can use a smaller speculum. As for the nervousness, all women r nervous about it. Can a gynecologist test you for STD without telling you, if you came in for routine yearly Pap smear? I am a self pay patient.
It could happen: Because almost everybody is supposed to get routine screenings for STD's, it becomes so "normal" to do it for almost all patients that it would be easy for a doctor or nurse to forget to mention that the tests are being done. For example, a nurse might count a patient's pulse without ever saying that she is counting the pulse. ...Read more
Will the doctor tell your parents after a HPV vacination test if you're not a virgin or not if your under 13?
Why?: The hpv vaccination is just like any other vaccination; you don't have to undergo a pelvic exam before it. If you have a standard pelvic exam, you can always request your doctor not tell your parents about your virginity status, as it is really impossible to tell whether a broken hymen was done through sex, or through normal activity such as exercise, tampon use, etc. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
