After my periods I get a bacterial infection, why is that? I don't get it every now and then but always after my period.

PH changes: Bacterisl vaginosis (bv) is a lot like a yeast infection. Its not something you catch. It occurs when bacteria (or yeast) that is already in the vagina begins to grow out of control. Lactobacilli (the good bacteria) in your vagina typically prevent this growth by keeping the vagina a little acidic (low ph). The blood from your period can temporarily raise the ph & make you more prone 2 infections.

I am late on my period about 5 days. I have a bacterial infection found in my urine. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative. Could the infection?

When in doubt: Just check another pregnancy test again in 1 week. If you have two negatives then you can be rest assured. Most likely your hormones are in flux now and you should have your menstrual flow again at some point. If it continues to be late and worries you, and you are not pregnant, see a healthcare provider to help reset your cycle. Thanks for trusting in HealthTap.

Can a bacterial infection keep you from starting your period? I'm five days late and took a pregnancy test, but it was negative. I have a bacterial vaginal infection.

A: A bacterial vaginal infection should not keep you from having a period. You may want to re-check a pregnancy test since they only reach their 97% accuracy a week or 2 after the missed period. That being said, there are many other reasons for a missed period such as stress, poor diet, excessive exercise, hormone imbalance, etc. If you have any concerns about your infection or possible pregnancy, you should give your doctor a call.

I just got off the Depo-Provera shot and I had a bacterial infection, I had to put vaginal gel inside me but now ive been on my period going on 2 weeks why?

I just got off the Depo-Provera shot and I had a bacterial infection, I had to put vaginal gel inside me but now ive been on my period going on 2 weeks why?

Off Depo: One of the common side effects of Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) amennorrhea (no periods) so because you have stopped Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) your menses (period) has started again. I am not sure why you are on a vaginal gel, I am assuming it is antibiotic to help clear infection or it is a spermicide. Regardless of it being a antibiotic or spermicide it will not stop your periods which is likely why your period has returned
