Can I Use Bacitracin For Minor Eye Hordeolum Internet
Taking bacitracin ophthalmic ointment for a stye. What are normal side effects? My eye gets slightly irritated/itchy is that normal?
Not effective: Bacitracin, a good antibiotic for open skin wounds, will not penetrate into a stye which is a closed system. The best treatment is frequent applications of very warm (not hot) pads or washcloth for 4 minutes about 5 times per day. Although very uncommon, you could develop an allergy to Bacitracin as well. ...Read more

It won't help or hurt: "styes" is a layman's term for blocked oil glands in the eyelid. Most all will resolve completely with time and warm compresses. If they do not resolve in a reasonable period of time, an ophthalmologist can easily incise and drain them leading to quick resolution. This triple antibiotic should not hurt anything (if not allergic), but won't help either as these are not bacterial in origin. ...Read more
I have a internal hordeolum. Some of the pus came out and went in my eye. My lower lid hurts and I collect pus from the corner of my eye. What to do?
Try heat: Use very warm soaks over the eye 4-5 times per day for 5 minutes each over the next several days./ This will usually make a stye disappear. If not see your ophthalmologist for further treatment. ...Read more
I put topical bacitracin in my eye due to conjunctivitis, cant get to docs until tomorrow. The eye feels great, might this treat the infection?
Possibly: If the topical bacitracin that you put in the eye is meant for the eye, then yes it can possibly treat a mild bacterial conjunctivitis. If the medication is not meant for the eye, I would hold off putting any more in. There are components of non-ophthalmic medications that can irritate the eye and cause more harm than good. I would follow up with doctor tomorrow. ...Read more
Yes: The two medications are different classes, the former is for a bacterial eye infection, and the later is for the itching that occurs with allergies. A caveat would be if you are trying to decrease some untoward side effect of too much polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) use, which can cause a contact dermatitis and conjunctivitis. I'd make sure that you follow up with your eye doctor if you are still experiencing eye issu. ...Read more
Why does my conjonctivitis seems to get worse (itching, pain) when I put polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) eye drops?
Chemical irritation: Polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) (ophthalmic preparation) may be irritating if used beyond 7 to 10 days, or if you are sensitive to any of the ingredients. Also, you may have been prescribed an antibiotic for the wrong problem, as in viral conjunctivitis or allergic conjunctivitis. Discuss with your prescribing physician your symptoms, as you may need to stop the polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) drops and be treated with a different product. ...Read more

See an eye doctor: There are few home remedies that are effective at treating your condition. If the spot is on the eye itself, it is likely a growth related to sun exposure (pingueculum or pterygium). It is usually benign but can become irritated. The only effective treatment is removal. Short course of steroid drops may work sometimes, but see an eye doctor in order to get the right treatment. ...Read more
Is polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) Antibiotic drops for external eye/ear infections, such as Pink Eye ok to take at 38 weeks pregnant?
It's probably safe:
Polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) drops are considered "class C" during pregnancy, which basically means that there is not enough good data in the medical literature to say whether it is harmful or safe.
That being said, the systemic absorbtion of topical drops applied to the eye/ear is fairly low (meaning very little will actually make it into the blood stream), which makes harm to the fetus unlikely. ...Read more

Skin abscess: In teenagers, it is not uncommon to suffer from acne. This can be related to a variety of normal growth issues, and also to physical activity, hygiene, and topical products used. I would typically not encourage multiple popping of blackheads or skin abscesses. The fingers could contaminate the wound further with other bacteria and cause a worse infection. Best to use soap and water regularly. ...Read more
