Can I Get A Tattoo After Kidney Transplant
Yes-at a parlor: As long as the tattoo is done at a reputable tattoo parlor with sterile equipment, you should be ok. I advise patients to wait until their steroids are stopped or reduced to a low level as this may affect the cosmetic outcome. It's always a good idea to discuss this with your doctor before proceeding. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
In medicine: a transfer from one body or body part to another of an organ (liver, heart, lung, kidney, pancreas bowel) or tissue (hand, face, hair). The immune system fights foreign invaders (like infections) so it will reject transplants from other people (allotransplants) because they look like infections. So transplants usually require drugs to ...Read more
Depends: This depends on your overall health status. The risk of infection is higher for cosmetic surgery when a person is on immunosuppressive drugs. Certain operations, like a tummy tuck, have to be performed with extreme care, since the transplanted kidney is lying right underneath the area where incisions are made for a tummy tuck. ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers

Depends: Most professionally-done tattoos are safe these days in terms of transmission of infectious agents like hepatitis. Since tattooing involves breaking the skin barrier, it poses some risk of bacterial infection. The risk is higher during periods of active chemo which lowers the immune system/slows down healing. There are however people on active chemo and yet have had tattoos done without problems. ...Read more
I had a kidney transplant 3 years ago I will like to know if a can use white kidney beans for my diet?
Cannelloni are high…: in phosphorus, a mineral that should be avoided by those with poor kidney function; often such pts are Rx'd phosphate binding meds to take w/ meals. If your kidney function tests (BUN, creatinine, creatinine clearance, etc) & sugar control are good, U should be able to eat those beans occasionally, but check with your nephrologist (kidney specialist) first to get his/her OK ...Read more

After 1 year: Since the blood bank cannot know which artists use proper infection-prevention techniques and which do not, there is a 12-month deferral period after getting a tattoo. If still healthy after that period (as most folks are), you are welcome to return to donating. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Get which?: Tattoo or transplant? Since both are in past tense, it's probably a bit late to ask the question? Now, assuming you're on immunosuppressant(s) for the transplant, the only risk for tattoo is getting an infection like hepatitis C which your body may not handle as well. If you're asking if it's ok to have gotten kidney transplant - I presume it was urgently needed given the type of procedure it is ...Read more
I hope you will: I've been a jumper for two decades. Be sure you keep the leg strap tight if your kidney is near the surface in your groin. The sport is safety-within-safety and appears dangerous but is in fact far safer (if you play by the rules) than anybody thinks. Your transplant has given you back your healthy life. Live it fully, and take you where your dreams guide you. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
6-24 months: Depends on so many factors. Sometimes I have patients who see great a few weeks out. Others take a few years and require a hard contact lens. No two people (or two eyes for that matter) heal exactly the same. I would expect at least a year depending on when your surgeon starts cutting out sutures. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Very few: I tell my patients tackle football, boxing, and skydiving. Use common sense. If you are fit you should be able to do most any sport. You should be aware there is an organized transplant olympics every few years; you would be shocked to see just how talented and capable many transplant recipients perform. ...Read more
How early can you detect hepatitis from a tattoo? I just got a tattoo done but i can't remember if they had the needle unopened. Can you get rid of it
Kidneys anatomically require connection to an artery for blood supply, a vein for blood drainage and the bladder for urine outflow. In a transplant a healthy kidney is disconnected from its usual attachments and moved to a new location with those 3 requirements (artery, vein, bladder). This may be an auto-txp - somewhere else in your own body; or an allo-txp -from ...Read more
