Flax seed oil which I'm going to put in my smoothies (for omega 3) and fish oil pills. what else can I do with flax oil?

Many uses: I'm glad you're health-conscious. It's a cooking oil popular in Europe, it's the basis of putty, is used to lubricate pool cues and cricket bats, thin paint, and was the basis of linoleum. Despite all the talk online, if there's a real health benefit it awaits demonstration. Enjoy your smoothies, but these are no substitute for sensible eating, avoiding smoking and staying aerobically fit. ...Read more

I take fish oil and niacin to lower my triglycerides, can I also add garlic tablets?

You can: But i doubt it will work. I've not had any luck with Niacin and modest with fish oil, unless it's a prescription strength. Best way is weight loss and avoiding sweats, easily absorbable carbs, etc. If you have hereditary hypertriglyceridemia, none of the mentioned meds will work effectively. ...Read more

Can my mother eat foods fried in oil with no cholesterol and trans fat? She's just been diagnosed with high cholesterol.

Diet's only 1 factor: This is between your mother and her personal physician. Hypercholesterolemia is largely about heredity. Managing it needs to include a focus on physical fitness. How much of a role diet and medication will take are questions to be addressed with respect to her long-term care -- and this will include her own preferences. Can you please clarify why Extra Virgin olive oil which has Saturated fat lowers LDL (bad cholesterol.) Is it advised to eat lot it olive oil daily?

False statement: Olive oil does not lower LDL. Olive oil raises ldl less so compared to other fats. Although there is some saturated fat in olive oil the major component is monounsaturated fat. This topic is too complex for me to answer fully here. But suffice it to say... Small amounts of olive oil daily 1 tablespoon or less combined with a healthy diet is healthier than many other fats ( trans-fats&sat. fats) ...Read more

My wife cooks vegatables with lean beef with olive oil I eat then when I go to work I have peanut butter and Jelly sand with whole grain breadhealthy?

It depends: I consider most beef, from cows in feedlots feed GMO corn and given hormones and antibiotics, to be VERY unhealthy but grass-fed beef without hormones/antibiotics is quite healthy, so buy that type! Better to cook with coconut oil. Choose organic peanut butter and organic whole grain bread; this is OK unless you are sensitive to gluten. I advise some salads and fruits in your diet as well. ...Read more
