Question: if two people with more or less body build are standing on a corner, one feels hot and the other feels mild. What is causes feeling of heat?
Different people: You have just shown a lovely example of how people differ -- and that these differences go deeper than physical makeup alone. We have different temperaments and preferences, different experiences of the same events. One feels "hot" and the other feels "mild". No right or wrong here -- just variability! Or maybe the "hot" one is wearing secret silk underwear? That could make a difference. :-). ...Read more

I was in the heat all day. I have a small sunburn. But now my right arm hurts, and fingertips tingle like I hurt it when I did not. Type 1 diabetic?
Tingling from edema: Bing in the heat all day with sunburn suggests some dehydration possible, and drinking water is key. The tissues of the arm are prone to swelling and that can cause the "right arm" pain and tingling fingers. One would suggest elevation of the arm to decrease swelling, squeezing a nerf ball, 20 min ice and 20 min off. With decrease swelling, the pain should subside. Type I diabetic risks infection ...Read more

Heat rash - keep dry: If it is truly a heat rash, there is no specific treatment, other than sponging, bathing with cool (not cold) water and ensuring that he/she wears natural, absorbing fiber, like cotton next to the skin, as a heat rash is usually caused by sweating a lot. Also keeping cool and well ventilated. If the rash gets worse, it is better to see a doctor to confirm the diagnosis. ...Read more

What's causing my pain, it's at the bottom of my back on one side only. It's agony! Painkillers/Deep heat are no relief?
Back pain: Back pain is hard to diagnose in the office, and is often one of the most common conditions encountered in the primary care setting. I was just prescribed an epi pen for sudden allergic reactions. Is it safe to keep one in my car since they're sensitive to heat and cold?
No: My advice to patients regarding storing the epi pen is treat it like potato salad -- you wouldn't leave potato salad in your hot car all day and then eat it would you? Same with the epi pen. Additionally, the recommendation is that Epipen (epinephrine) always be on your person or immediately available for use. Severe allergic reactions can occur anytime and seconds matter. ...Read more

Am 29 had 3 miscarriages between each one around a year no heat beat and baby stop at 6 weeks test shows subclinical hypothyrosim is this a reason?
Cant say for sure: Sub clinical means that you do not have overt symptoms. The body is an amazing and complex machine that responds to subtle changes in hormone levels. If you do not need medical treatment yet I would also consult with an acupuncturist /chinese medicine practitioner. I have had amazing results in patients with both thyroid and fertility issues with these modalities. ...Read more

Do what helps: Traditional wisdom is ice for first 24 hours to limit inflammation then heat after to reduce spasm and stiffness. While this approach works well for some injuries (like a sprained ankle) I don't find patients usually get much relief from the ice portion (likely less inflammation and more muscle spasm). Heat helps most people but in the end, do whatever works for you. ...Read more

Headache for 5weeks. One sided. Somedays switches sides Nothing works massages Ice/heat 2 tordol shots Chiro Phrenilin pill Sed rate 15
I've had muscle spasms in the lower back& told two diff. Things. 2 docs said to apply ice & 1 said heat. I'm confused, which is best to reduce?
Muscle spasm: Actually both are right in terms of using these modalities to treat pain or spasm. Generally ice is reserved for the first 24-48hrs after your symptoms develop and heat is used thereafter. There is no concrete scientific evidence that one is much better than another or that it makes a difference to use them or not. If there's inflammation use cold before heat, thereafter do what feels good. ...Read more

2 month old had a heat rash to neck 1 month ago. Enlarged lymph node appeared. Now new one appeared to other side-occipital? When worry lymphoma?
Infant lymph nodes: Hello. The enlarged node is most likely unrelated to the heat rash your infant had 1 month ago. Occipital nodes are more noticeable in infants because their skin is thinner. The nodes should be "rubbery" in feel and move easily. Most common reasons for enlargement would be a scalp rash like "cradle cap." You can get the nodes checked by the pediatrician, but they are probably normal. ...Read more

What is the difference in results of using a clay heat pack for knee stiffness v.S. Using a warm cloth bag of rice is one better than the other?
