Panc Ca discussion: If there is a VERY strong family history of panc Ca, some might consider dynamic contrast MRI to find TINY lesions. But this is overkill just to exclude a panc. lesion that would be symptomatic as contrast CT and EUS are really good tests. There can be diagnostic challenges w/ abd. and back pain. Most are benign under 40 yo. An internist will have all your info and can try to put it together. ...Read more

My CT scan for abdomen show prominent common bile duct. Thyroid blood work came back normal. Doctor order blood work for my liver. ?
Further evaluation: Normal size (diameter) of a common bile duct is 1.2 cm or smaller. Ct finding of "prominence" means enlargement or thickening of the duct wall. Either circumstance can be benign (have no relevance to any disease process), or might be caused by an issue that is worth pursuing. If the liver function tests are abnormal, your doctor will probably want to do further testing. If normal, probably not. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Possibly: The best gallbladder test is an ultrasound of the abdomen, and if there is concern for a blockage, a HIDA scan (pronounced hide-a) may be ordered. This HIDA scan will also show if the gallbladder is functioning normally. If there is abnormal function one can have symptoms even if no gallstones are present. CT can miss most of this, so its not ordered as a first test if gallbladder a concern. ...Read more

How can you test if gallbladder fluid is leaking into adbomen due to damaged bile ducts? HIDA scan?
I am having a pain where my gall bladder was removed. There is bile in my stomach and my bile duct is swollen. Hida scan shows normal -what is this?
Postchole-x Syndrome: Postcholecystectomy syndrome is the persistence or return of RUQ abd pain following gallbladder removal. This is due to non-biliary causes (irritable bowel, ulcer dz, gerd, etc), organic biliary dz (common duct stones/stricture/cancer), or functional biliary disease (sphincter of oddi dysfunction). I advise GI work up to include labs, ultrasound+/-ercp, depending on above results. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
CT Scan: "Liver is normal in morphology. Mild intrahepatic biliary duct dilatation. Normal common bile duct". Is this normal?
Relatively normal: If the radiology report states normal morphology it is fairly certain there are no big worries. We do not know why the scan was ordered but mild intrahepatic biliary duct dilatation may be completely normal for this patient. The normal common bile duct finding means the liver, pancreas and gallbladder empty in to a normal duct that drains into the intestine. All good findings. Good luck. ...Read more
