Calmoseptine Ointment Side Effects
I'm 21wks pregnant and have anal fissure because of hardened stool. What can be used to cure the fissure and is calmoseptine ointment safe for pregnant?
Stool softener: The best treatment for an anal fissure is to avoid constipation with a simple stool softener. Natural foods such as prunes or raisins are likely your best bet while you're pregnant, in addition to drinking lots of water and walking more. I would ask your OB about calmoseptine. ...Read more

Do not scrub it: See a plastic dermatologist or plastics specialist, and never use it again on or near face. See prior answers about this topic. A caution and comment about the fact that you mentioned an ointment. How potent a topical steroid is has an enormous amount to do with if it's in cream form (milder) or ointment form (much more potent); if use occlusive dressing over it, then ten times more potent. ...Read more

2nd strongest: Mometasone is in 2nd strongest class out of 7 levels of topical steroids. Use sparingly and for shortest time possible. Can cause thinning of your skin, sometimes redness and irritation [sensitized skin]. Kids may absorb more so be very careful if used chronically [can effect their whole body]/. ...Read more

Using dovobet ointment on psoriasis since 12 now 19. occasionally on genital area. What could be the side effects? Permanent? I have stopped now.
Depends on how used: Avoid any but occasional use in folds such as genital. Likely to cause atrophy [thinning] of skin there. Using large amounts, more than 2 oz per week, might produce enough systemic absorption of steroid to be a problem. Atrophy of skin is not permanent, but is slow to recover. Generally safe. You forgot to indicate the benefit. Why did you stop? Best result is to see a dermatologist. ...Read more
Is it safe to use betamethasone 0.05% ointment on my 3 month old baby's body for eczema? Is it safe on the face? Any side effects?
No…betamethasone is: High potency steroid & could damage baby's skin as well as interfere with growth if used too much. Hydrocortisone is lower potency; use 0.5 or 1.0% (otc) & the smallest amount that puts a thin film on affected area. Face is very sensitive area; so "less is more" applies. If 0.5% insufficient (after 5-7 days' use) may try 1%. Still no response, consult pediatrician. ...Read more
Taking bacitracin ophthalmic ointment for a stye. What are normal side effects? My eye gets slightly irritated/itchy is that normal?
Not effective: Bacitracin, a good antibiotic for open skin wounds, will not penetrate into a stye which is a closed system. The best treatment is frequent applications of very warm (not hot) pads or washcloth for 4 minutes about 5 times per day. Although very uncommon, you could develop an allergy to Bacitracin as well. ...Read more
Should different topical ointments be ever mixed? Can you tell me what side effects/if any could happen if you mix ammonium lactate cream, ketoconazal shampoo, betamethasone ointment, clobetasol propionate ointment?
The Betamethasone and the clobetasol are both steroids, therefore it is probably not a good idea to mix these together since steroids can cause thinning of the skin when used in high amounts or over prolonged periods of time. As far as the the other two ointments, there is no interaction as far as I can tell from my research; however you should consult the prescribing doctor or your local pharmacist to be sure.

My 6 month old has been on hydrocortisone valerate ointment USP 0.2% for 3 months i'd like to get him off it. Can I just stop it without side effects?
Yes and No: Sorry for the unclear answer, but have you found out the underlying cause of whatever you are sing the steroid cream for? If that has not been solved yet, stopping the cream is likely to lead to flare-up of whatever problem you were treating - I suspect some type of eczema. You may want to withdraw it over a week or two - use it every other and then every third day, to see if condition flares up. ...Read more

I am sorry to tell you that most men stop growing around age 18- but occasionally some will grow until age 21 or so. Taking measures to increase your production of growth hormone might help, but if your growth plates have closed (like most 18 yo's) then you've reached your max.
