Urine is the product of the kidneys, which is produced to eliminate the waste products of metabolism, manage body fluid balance, &maintain acid-base balance. The blood is first filtered by the kidneys, and the composition of the resulting fluid is then altered depending on the body's needs. It is composed of mostly water, and breakdown products from blood cells impart ...Read more

What is the formula to calculate calcium/creatinine ratio in 24hour urine?

What is the formula to calculate calcium/creatinine ratio in 24hour urine?

Making it simple: The strictest definition of the calcium/creatinine ratio is the urinary concentration of calcium divided by the urinary concentration of creatinine in a urine specimen collected over 24 hours. The normal ratio is ...Read more

Why is it so hard to find out normal urine creatinine and calcium levels for a 5 yr old if 3, 3 creatinine , 2.4 calcium..What is norm ? Shud i worry?

Why is it so hard to find out normal urine creatinine and calcium levels for a 5 yr old if 3, 3 creatinine , 2.4 calcium..What is norm ? Shud i worry?

Worthless number: The total creatinine put out varies primarily with the total mass of skeletal muscle. You'll never find a "normal" value for either. The concentration is even more variable as it depends on how much water was drunk. The urine creatinine is measured only as something to compare with a semi-constant, the creatinine. People aren't numbers, and we do a disservice focusing on labs apart from history. ...Read more

Screening test: The ratio of the components on this study look for evidence of higher than normal calcium excretion. At 5, the expeccted ratio of calcium to creatinine would be .42 while the numbers you cite give a ratio of .73. This suggests higher calcium loss.It can be seen in a variety of conditions.Confirmatory tests may include a 24 hour urine collection.Timing of your followup is adequate. ...Read more

For a spot urine test for 50lb girl , is trace blood, calcium 2.4 , creatinine 3.3 within normal range? If not what can it be from? How can I help her

As answered earlier: A spot urinary calcium to creatinine ratio of 2.4/3.3 is .72, which is high for age and means more calcium is being lost than normal. This can also explain the urine red blood cells, as calcium buildup in the kidneys has this effect. There are several possible causes. Followup with your doc at your scheduled appointment and complete the evaluation. ...Read more

Daughter 2.5 yrs old has crystals in urine. Ultrsoundof kidneys normal. Urine analysis normal. But uric acid/ creatinine 1.1 and calcium/cr .26. Why ?

Daughter 2.5 yrs old has crystals in urine. Ultrsoundof kidneys normal. Urine analysis normal. But uric acid/ creatinine 1.1 and calcium/cr .26. Why ?

What's the worry?: Crystals precipitate in most people's urine as it cools and usually mean absolutely nothing. The amount of uric acid is mostly a function of its production which is mostly about diet and not a worry. Calcium / creatinine ratio in grams/grams of .260 is normal. Perhaps there is a misunderstanding. ...Read more

I have an enlarged spleen, low ast/sgot, low bun/creatinine, high chlorine level, low lymphocytes, low calcium, and trace of urine leukocyte. Thoughts?

Any symptoms?: If you do not have any symptoms, there is no point in chasing laboratory results. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. ...Read more

This is normal: Creatinine is normally excreted in the urine. The concentration of creatinine by itself means nothing other than the kidneys are doing their job. Blood creatinine will tell you better how well the kidneys are working. ...Read more
